  1. IslamicFestivals

  2. The word Eid comes from Arabic language where it means festivity, celebration, recurring happiness and feast. In Islam, there are two major festivals (Eids): • Eid al Fitr • Eid al Adha • Eid al fitr (also known as Feast of Ramadhan) • Eid al Adha (also known as Feast of Sacrifice) Origins of the Word “Eid”

  3. AHADEETH REGARDING FESTIVALS Aisha (R.A) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said, “Al-Fitr is the day that people break fast and Al-Adha is the day that the people sacrifice.” (Hadith 802, Al-Tirmidhi) Abu Saeed Al Khudri (R.A) narrated that Allah’s messenger Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prohibited to fast on the “Day of Adha” and “Day of Fitr.” (Hadith 772, Al-Tirmidhi)

  4. ISLAMIC FESTIVAL – EID-AL-FITR • Eid Al Fitr is celebrated by Muslims on the first day of Shaw’wal, at the completion of Ramadan. • Paying Zakat or giving to charity is a major part of the holiday. • Many celebrants also eat a large meal with family and friends to mark the occasion. • It is truly a Thanksgiving Day for the believing men and women.

  5. AHADEETH REGARDING EID-AL-FITR Anas [R.A] narrated that Allah’s messenger (PBUH) never proceeded (for the prayer) on the Day of Eid-Al-Fitr unless he had eaten some dates. He also narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to eat odd number of dates. (Al Bukhari 2:73) The Prophet (PBUH) went out and offered a two Rak’at prayer on the day of Eid ulFitr and did not offer any other prayer before or after it and at that time Bilal (R.A) was accompanying him. (Al-Bukhari 2:104)

  6. ISLAMIC FESTIVAL – EID-AL-ADHA • Eid Al Adha is celebrated on the tenth day of DhilHijja (which is the 12th and last month of the Islamic calendar). • It is also a very joyous day; it is an occasion to convey our self-sacrifice, commitment and obedience to Allah. • It commemorates the great act of obedience to Allah by the Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) in showing his willingness to sacrifice his son Ismael (A.S) Allah accepted his sacrifice and replaced Ismael (A.S) with a lamb.

  7. RITUALS PERFORMING ON EID-AL-ADHA • Those who have enough wealth to pay zakat must offer the sacrifice for Allah. A lamb, sheep, goat, cow, buffalo or camel can be offered as the sacrifice. • The sacrifice should be accomplished by slaughtering the animal after SalaatulEid. The sacrifice is also called udhiyah or qurbani. • It is also common to meet your relatives and distribute the meat of sacrifice among your family and poor people. • Eid Al Adha lasts from 10th Dhil Hijjah until the sunset of 12th Dhil Hijjah.

  8. STRUCTURE OF SALAAT-UL- EID • Salaatul Eid is wajib(strongly recommended) upon every Muslim. It consists of two Rak’ah with six or thirteen additional takbir. It must be offered in congregation. • The prayer is followed by a sermon which is a part of worship and listening to it is Sunnah. Abdullah bin Umar(R.A) narrated that Allah’s messenger Muhammad PBUH used to offer Eid prayer of Eid Al Adha and Eid Al Fitr, and then deliver the khutba after Salah.
