WILL THE SAUDI AUTHORITIES IMPOSE NEW LIMITATIONS AND GUIDELINES? LET'S TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THE MINOR PILGRIMAGE KNOWN AS UMRAH IN 2022.
WHEN WILL UMRAH BE HELD IN 2022?
While it is preferential to undertake Umrah during the sacred month of Ramadan, it can be done at any time of the year. But, Umrah is performed according to the Saudi government's restrictions and regulations. The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj & Umrah started issuing the new guidelines and rules & regulations in January 2022. Foreigners are allowed to participate in the Umrah, according to the Ministry of Hajj & Umrah. International pilgrims must obtain a vaccination certificate from the authorized institutions in their country of residence and then submit it with their application form, according to the latest announcement. However, due to the advent of the Omicron variant, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj has declared that Umrah permits will only be issued once every 10 days. Pilgrims would no longer be able to undertake consecutive Umrahs due to the 10-day waiting period. This newly announced rule aims to stop the coronavirus from spreading in Makkah's Grand Mosque, where social distancing restrictions and mask-wearing regulations have been imposed once again. Moreover, foreign pilgrims who have been fully immunized against Covid-19 with the vaccinations Saudi-approved Arabia may skip quarantine after their arrival in Saudi Arabia. Foreign pilgrims may also stay for up to 30 days, which is a welcome or positive move by the Saudi government. It's worth noting that, owing to the Omicron variant, Saudi Arabia has suspended flights from a specified number of countries. These specified countries’ names are listed below; • South Africa • Namibia • Botswana • Zimbabwe • Mozambique • Lesotho • Malawi • Zambia • Madagascar • Angola • Seychelles • Mauritius • Union of Comoros • The Federal Republic of Nigeria.
