  1. Know How to Safely Light Up a Hookah at Home You don’t have to go to your usual hookah bar to enjoy ashisha pipe in New Zealand. With the right hookah, you can smoke in the comfort of your home. Just be sure you know how to set up and light your hookah correctly to ensure safety. Here are some tips on how to do it right. Check and clean the parts. When you first get your hookah, verify that there are no damaged or missing parts. Take some time to clean the parts thoroughly before your session, especially the hookah pipe, base, and stainless steel down stem. Wash the hose if it’s washable. Fill the base with enough water. Stop filling water at around one or one and a half inches above the down stem. Too much water will tighten the shisha pipe making it challenging to draw smoke. However, insufficient water can make your smoke a bit harsh and airy. How to properly set up the hookah Depending on your hookah, ensure that the base grommet creates a tight seal between the glass base and the hookah shaft. It should go on the shaft, not the glass base, and be fully leveled to prevent your hookah from becoming uneven. Apply some pressure to slide it into place. The hose port must be unclogged and clean to allow smoke to travel smoothly. A hose grommet must be in place for a tight seal that prevents air leaks when inserting the hose to prevent any leakage of air. You can check by placing your thumb over top of the hookah pipe and try to draw some air through the hose. Place the coal tray before screwing in the bowl stem. Slide an appropriate-sized bowl grommet over before placing a filled bowl on top. When filling up your bowl, you want to first break up the shisha with the fork and lightly pack the bowl around 80 percent without clogging the holes to allow consistent heating of the shisha and ensure that it’s leveled with the bowl so you can place aluminum foil or a heat top management system.

  2. Make sure all the hookah parts are set up correctly before applying heat. Light up the hookah Use either natural charcoal or quick lights for your shisha pipe. You’ll need a lighter or a torch for quick lights and a burner for natural charcoal. No matter what charcoal you use, ensure you’re in a well-ventilated area without flammable objects around you. Use tongs to hold the charcoal.
