Here are some tips to help you prepare your hookah and enjoy your next smoking session in the privacy of your house: Understand how to prepare the hookah Take cues from your favourite hookah lounge. It should have its unique way of preparing smoking pipes in NZ. Assuming you already know how to assemble the hookah, you can move on to the next steps. Water level Prepare the hookah pipe for the bowl. Mind the water level in the bottom base to make a difference in your experience. The amount of water will vary according to the hookah and your personal preference. If it’s too low, the shisha smoke won’t be filtered and cooled through the water, resulting in an unpleasant experience. However, putting too much water will make the pull feel restricted, and you risk sucking water up the hose. The ideal water level is around half an inch of the down stem, which must be submerged in the water for a smooth draw. Bowl packing Be sure to pick a high-quality bowl. Pick your preferred shisha tobacco flavours and use your fingers or a shisha fork to break the tobacco before stirring it. Get a pinch of the shisha and lightly sprinkle the tobacco into the bowl while making sure no pieces are blocking the small holes. Keep sprinkling until there is a soft layer that’s filled up to the outer edges of the bowl. Use the right aluminium foil.

Once the charcoal is fully lit, place it on top of the foil-covered clay bowl. Avoid placing coals in the centre as this could cause too much heat and result in harsher smoke.
