  2. India has the largest number of children and adolescents in the world. Around half of all mental health problems in people manifest by the time they are 14, and one-thirds by the time they are 25. A large chunk of students struggle to deal with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and more. The Government of India has given emphasis to identification of developmental delays and developmental disorders as part of the School Health Program under the ‘Ayushman Bharat’ scheme. However, often when students are identified in schools as potentially struggling with mental health issues, they are referred out to professionals in the community for treatment. While well-intended, this approach is largely unsuccessful if families face challenges such as lack of transportation, or lack of flexibility with their jobs leaving them unable to make appointments and most importantly, stigma associated with mental health and development issues. We are a guide and partner for institutions to setup up their mental health initiatives and deliver inclusive student wellbeing programs. Led by Chitra Mahajan, a counsellor and former educator with over 30 years of experience of working with children and parents, Caress has access to a multi-city network of accredited experts with various specializations. Collectively, we have over 160 years of sectoral experience.
