  1. What is FSHD Muscular Dystrophy?

  2. FSHD Muscular Dystrophy Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is a genetic disorder that affects the muscles of the face, shoulders, and upper arms. FSHD is caused by a genetic mutation that leads to the gradual breakdown and weakening of the muscles. The symptoms of FSHD can vary widely from person to person, but common symptoms include:

  3. Facial weakness Weakness in the facial muscles can cause difficulty with facial expressions, such as smiling, frowning, and whistling. Shoulder weakness Weakness in the shoulder muscles can cause difficulty lifting the arms overhead or reaching behind the back.

  4. Upper arm weakness Weakness in the upper arm muscles can cause difficulty with tasks such as combing hair or lifting objects. Foot drop Weakness in the muscles of the lower leg can cause the foot to drop, making walking difficult.
