A storage water heater consists of an insulated tank in which cold water is heated and stored until it is needed. The tank is connected to a cold water line and a hot water line. When you turn on your hot water tap, the cold water enters the tank and is heated by either an electric element or a gas burner located at the bottom of the tank. The hot water then rises to the top of the tank where it can be drawn off by you whenever you need it. w w w . p l u m b e r s i n g a p o r e . O r g
There are several different sizes of storage water heaters available on the market, and the size that you need will depend on your individual needs and usage patterns. For example, if you have a family of four who all take showers every morning, you will need a larger storage tank than someone who lives alone and only uses their hot water for laundry and dishes. In general, however, most homes can get by with a 40-gallon or 50-gallon storage tank. w w w . p l u m b e r s i n g a p o r e . O r g
