The Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) and the Canadian College of Health Record Administrators (CCHRA)/[“Canadian College of Health Information Management”(CCHIM)] operate as one organization, under the acronym “CHIMA”.

Stay informed on current national issues related to HIM practice;

Access professional development and employment opportunities;

Network with other HIM Professionals either in the same domain of practice or in one of the other domains of practice;

Get a members-only price on continuing education workshops and conferences;

Get advice on workplace issues;

Can use your professional credentials;

Can assure your employer that you are a professional and hold true to the CHIMA Code of Ethics:

Support the national professional college which not only certifies HIM programs across Canada; it also ensures these recognized programs teach to set entry-level HIM practice standards.

MembershipCONSEQUENCES OF RESIGNATION:
  • Membership in CHIMA has always been mandatory from a College and Association perspective.
  • Not a current member of CHIMA …Not eligible to use the professional credential or designation.
  • To date, non-members have not been removed from the College register, however with the implementation of mandatory continuing professional education (CPE) credits; we will be enforcing long-standing bylaws. Your name will be removed from the college register for 2007 and until reinstatement occurs.
