  2. 1 CANCER DISEASE Cancer is a disease that occurs when cells in your body start behaving abnormally and out of control. Cancer can affect any organ or system in the body but usually starts in the cells of organs like lungs, breasts, colon, prostate, stomach, liver, bladder, skin, cervix, uterus, thyroid, lymph nodes, blood, bone marrow, brain, nervous system, eyes, and mouth.

  4. 2 TYPES OF CANCER There are two types of cancers – carcinomas and sarcomas. Carcinoma means “malignant tumor” and refers to malignant tumors that begin in the epithelial (skin) cells. Sarcoma means “tumor of connective tissue” and refers to tumors that begin in connective tissue, muscle, cartilage, fat, bone, or other soft tissue.

  5. 3 MAJOR TYPES OF CANCER The three major types of cancer are breast, lung, and colorectal. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women worldwide. Lung cancer is the number one cause of cancer deaths in men and women combined. Colorectal cancer is the third most common type of cancer in both men and women.

  6. 4 COMMON TYPES OF CANCER In addition to these three major types of cancer, there are many others including leukemia, melanoma, lymphoma, and myeloma. There are many different factors that contribute to the development of cancer, including genetics, lifestyle choices, environmental exposures, diet, and exposure to certain chemicals
