STD – Importance Of Early Diagnosis & Treatment

Venereal disease is a sexually transmitted disease that is contracted by sexual contact and transmitted via semen, vaginal secretions, or blood during sexual intercourse. Anyone having unprotected sex is at a risk of contracting venereal disease. But if you are in a monogamous partnership, and if you and your partner have both tested negative for HIV and other STD (sexually transmitted diseases), then you are at low risk. But it is also important to understand that your partner may not be as monogamous as you think. Therefore it makes sense to practice safe sex at all times. What are the risk factors? Time and again health counselors have listed the following: Young age Not using condoms Concurrent partners According to latest statistics, teenagers and young adults below 25 accounts for 50% of the approximately 20 million cases of STD contracted each year in the United States. Sexually transmitted infection risk differs by gender. Women are more susceptible to Chlamydia, while for men, especially homosexuals it is syphilis. Can STD be treated? Some sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and syphilis can be treated with proper medication. But importantly safe behavior is the best bet to prevent STD.
