  1. Breaking The Shackles Of Child Marriage To Protect India’s Children Child marriage remains a harrowing reality in many parts of India, affecting the lives of millions of underprivileged children, especially girls. This illegal practise denies them their childhood, education, and opportunities for a better future. To break the cycle of child marriage and protect these vulnerable children, it is essential to understand its detrimental consequences and work collectively towards eradicating this social evil. Child marriage is a deeply ingrained cultural issue that persists in various regions of India, predominantly in rural and economically disadvantaged communities. In many cases, young girls are forced into marriages with older men, perpetuating gender

  2. inequality and robbing them of their basic rights. This practise often leads to early pregnancies, compromising both the health of the child brides and their unborn children. Consequences of Child Marriage: Child marriage has severe consequences that ripple through generations. It perpetuates poverty by limiting educational opportunities for girls, trapping them in a cycle of dependence. Lack of education deprives them of the skills and knowledge required to escape poverty and contribute positively to society. Additionally, child brides are at higher risk of domestic violence, marital rape, and mental health issues due to their premature and often coerced unions. Protecting Underserved Children: To safeguard at-risk children from the devastating effects of child marriage, multi-dimensional strategies must be employed. Awareness campaigns are crucial to educating communities about the harmful impacts of child marriage on children's physical and mental well-being. It often causes malnutrition in India’s children due to early pregnancy, a lack of medical aid, etc. Involving local leaders, educators, and religious figures in these initiatives can bring about a change in attitudes and foster a sense of responsibility towards protecting children's rights.

  3. Access to education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of child marriage. By providing quality education and ensuring school attendance, especially for girls, we can empower them to make informed decisions about their lives and aspire for brighter futures. Government policies and legal frameworks must be reinforced and strictly enforced to combat child marriage effectively. Collaborative efforts between authorities, NGOs, and community-based organisations can ensure that child marriage is not only discouraged but also penalised, acting as a deterrent for potential perpetrators. CRY UK actively works to protect and save underprivileged children in India from child marriage by raising awareness, advocating for legal reforms, and providing access to education.
