  1. L E A R N H O W T O U N W I N D W I T H C A L M I N G M U S I C January 27, 2022 Do you ever feel like you're just too wound up? Do you find yourself constantly stressed out and unable to relax? If so, then you may benefit from some calming music. In this blog post, we'll teach you how to unwind with binaural music. So, sit back and relax—we'll take care of the rest. What is Calming Music? Calming music is any music that you can use to help yourself relax. This type of music tends to incorporate slow tempos, quiet sounds and gentle melodies. It also lacks sudden changes in volume or other harsh elements because these types of sounds can be extremely stressful for people who are easily triggered by them. Thus, if your life feels like it's constantly full of stress, anxious feelings and over-stimulation, calming music just may be exactly what you need to get things back on track. Summary: Calming music isn't just about playing some smooth jazz while sipping an herbal tea! Rather, it's about using binaural beats (like those in Relax Melodies) to reduce your stress levels and allow you to feel more relaxed.

  2. Review of the Research In 2012, a study at Florida State examined how stress impacts people's ability to make decisions. During this study, binaural music was played while participants had their brain activity measured via EEG (electroencephalography). The results indicated that listening to calming music while under stress could help improve decision-making abilities. What is Binaural Music? Binaural beats are created by playing slightly different frequencies into each ear from stereo headphones or speakers. In technical terms, binaural beats are an auditory illusion perceived when two coherent sounds with similar frequencies, differing in phase by <40 Hz, are presented dichotically using stereo headphones. Put simply; bural beats assist you in entering a relaxed state because they encourage communication between the hemispheres of your brain. This, in turn, encourages relaxation and calmness in your mind and body. Summary: Binaural music can help to reduce stress and enhance mental clarity by encouraging communication between the right and left hemispheres of your brain. What is a Relaxing Soundscape? A soundscape is simply a collection or medley of relaxing sounds that has been recorded to create "background" noise. These types of recordings often feature

  3. nature sounds (e.g., waves crashing), rainfall, running water, chirping birds, etc. They're typically 30-60 minutes long and you can listen to them at any time However, experts do recommend listening to soundscape recordings while you're trying to fall asleep. Summary: Relaxing soundscapes are an easy way for you to get started with calming music. However, keep in mind that they aren't a substitute for binaural beats . Using Binaural Beats and Soundscapes Together Many people love using calming music and relaxing soundscapes together because the two can have a harmonious effect on your mind and body. For example, binaural beats help to reduce stress by encouraging communication between the right and left hemispheres of your brain, whereas natural sounds found in relaxing soundscapes tend to encourage peacefulness, calmness and relaxation in themselves. In other words; when used, these two types of things tend to have an additive effect on one another. Summary: Relaxing sounds can enhance the calming benefits of binaural beats. They do this by encouraging peacefulness, relaxation and calmness in your mind and body—all attributes that are common among people who listen to binaural beats. Using the Right Type of Headphones for Binaural Beats The last thing you want is to listen to calming music with sub-par headphones—it simply won't be as effective! Thus, using a good pair of headphones is essential when it comes to achieving the maximum benefits from calming music or binaural beats. With this said, make sure you find a pair that allows outside noises to filter through so don't miss out on much of the daily tranquility found in your surroundings. If you want to make sure that outside noises come through, try listening with over-the-ear headphones as they generally offer a more immersive soundscape experience. Summary: Make sure you use a good pair of headphones when using binaural beats or relaxing sounds. It's usually best to avoid using earbuds for this type of thing because they typically don't allow outside noise to filter through and can cause stress and tension due to the fact that you're paying extra attention on what's going on around you.

  4. As such, if you do choose to use earbuds, it's probably best not to play calming music at full volume so as not to out on any of the tranquility in your surroundings. Summary: If you choose to use earbuds, it's probably best not to play calming music too loudly so that you don't miss out on any of the daily tranquility in your surroundings. Listening While Sleeping Listening to binaural beats while sleeping can be an excellent way for you to get back into a normal sleep cycle if you've been dealing with insomnia or other sleep issues recently. To put this simply; when done right, listening while sleeping can make it easier for your brain and body to slip into the proper state needed for deep REM (rapid-eye movement). The primary benefit of using binaural beats when sleeping is that they make it easier for you to enter into deeper states quickly. Summary: Listening to binaural beats while sleeping can help you sleep better because it helps your brain and body enter into the proper states for deep REM. Using Binaural Beats with Other People One of the nice things about using binaural beats is that they don't require any assistance from others—meaning you really can do them on your own without having to rely on anyone else. However, if you have the money, time and resources available, I highly recommend playing calming music out loud for other people to listen to as well! For example, maybe a parent's day at work didn't go so well and they're feeling stressed-out or overwhelmed by taking care of their child after long day at work. In this instance, you can play calming music out loud for them so that they can take a break and re-charge their batteries. Summary: Binaural beats don't require any assistance from others but you can always play soothing music out loud for other people to enjoy as well! How Long Should I Listen to Binaural Beats? This is probably the most important question of all because there isn't an exact answer here. That said; if your goal is to try binaural beats with deeper states of meditation , then you'll likely need to listen for 30 minutes or more . However, if you're just trying to relax before bedtime , it's usually best to start small (i.e. 5-10 minutes) and then increase the time as you progress. Summary: The length of time that you should listen to binaural beats depends on your goal.

  5. How Do I Listen to Binaural Beats? To put this simply, there are two main ways for you to listen to binaural beats; by using headphones or by playing them out loud. Using Headphones When it comes to listening with headphones, it's usually best if you use over-the-ear headphones so that outside noises don't interfere with what you're trying to achieve during your sessions . With that said, many people find over-the-ear headphones uncomfortable and they often take up more space than other types of headphones (e.g., earbuds). As such, if you're looking for an easy way to accomplish the same thing without having to deal with extra wires or annoying earbuds, it's best to opt for noise-cancelling headphones instead. Summary: When using binaural beats on your own , it's usually best to use over-the-ear headphones so that outside noises don't interfere with what you're trying to achieve during your sessions. Playing Binaural Beats Out Loud Whether you choose to use binaural beats by themselves or if you play these out loud through music; one of the nice things about this particular form of meditation is that it doesn't require any special equipment (e.g., no special mats/clothing/pillows). However, if you plan on playing them out loud through music , it's very important to make sure that you choose the right songs from the get-go. As soon as you start trying binaural beats with music, you'll find there are some really good songs out there but even some of those don't work as well as you might hope. The difference between using a song that works very well and one that doesn't is fairly easy to spot if you know what to look for. For example, a lot of people who try this end up finding that they only need the help of a single instrumental track before they fall asleep because it helps their brain enter into deeper sleep states more quickly . Others have found success by combining an instrumental track with calming music so that they can get the best of both worlds when trying to calm down. With that said, it's still important to listen for at least five minutes before you decide if a song works or not because sometimes all it takes is this short amount of time in order to feel the effects. Summary: Using binaural beats with music requires listening for at least five minutes before deciding if a given track works well . What Are Some Good Songs to Try with Binaural Beats?

  6. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of songs out there that have been created with binaural beats in mind so choosing the right one isn't always easy. If you're just getting started , here are two suggestions that have worked very well for others in the past. 1) 10 Hz Schumann Resonance (7.83 Hz Alpha) - One of the most common ways that you can choose to meditate with binaural beats is by choosing a 7.83 Hz alpha track and then playing this through headphones . If you're just getting started, it's probably best to start here because it's not too fast or too slow for most people. 2) MUSHROOMS Meditation Binaural Beat - This song was created specifically with mediation in mind so if you want to know what type of music works best when trying binaural beats , this is your best bet. That said; since this track uses mushrooms as part of its name, there are some who might be turned off by this idea; which is why it's always best to test the waters before you actually buy anything. Summary: If you're just getting started, try a 7.83 Hz alpha track and then playing this through headphones (or speakers).
