  1. How To Maintain Daily Mile Playground Markings? As the world keeps moving towards far superior technological advancements, we find ourselves spending more and more time indoors, feeling deeply entrenched in the virtual rather than stepping out to enjoy what’s real. This is more so for the new generation that has become accustomed to screens 24/7 in their lives. As we have become wonted to a sedentary lifestyle, the significance of embracing physical activities in our lives has never been so pronounced. This is almost mandatory for children, as they are more exposed to this new lifestyle and are, in fact, practically unwilling to engage in outdoor activities. Keeping that in mind, initiatives like the Daily Mile serve a far greater purpose. The Daily Mile allows schools to get children out of the classroom to enjoy nature outside. Further, it improves their physical well-being, as children jog or walk a mile daily. However, if you look closely, you will find that the Daily Mile playground markings play a critical role in all this. These are complimentary to the instructors and help children in their physical activity by outlining a track that they can follow to complete their daily mile hike. Thus, it is paramount that you should pay extra care to these playground markings. What is the Daily Mile Initiative?

  2. The Daily Mile started as a simple outdoor activity under Principal Elaine Wyllie, MBE, back in 2012. In her primary school in Scotland, Principal Elaine figured out that most of the children in school are unable to run around the football field without stopping due to exhaustion. Thus, Principle Elaine took it upon herself and, with the staff and other school teachers, designed a course where children had to run or jog around the field every day for 15 minutes. Soon, this program showed results as the children became fit in just four weeks. Seeing the success and positive impact of this activity, this was adopted across schools in the UK, which has come to be known as the Daily Mile initiative. Today, over 9000 schools across 60 nations have registered with the initiative, allowing the children to benefit. The Daily Mile has been recognized as a social physical activity where children are encouraged to jog, run, cycle, or even walk a mile daily, in nature, experiencing fresh air and daily exercise. The primary goal of this initiative is to enhance the physical, social, mental, and emotional well-being of children while allowing them to experience outdoor activities and try to keep them away from screens. Learn More About Playground Markings Due to the growth of the Daily Mile initiative, schools have started investing in playground markings to aid children traversing the ground without any cause for concern. These playground markings can be in different shapes, lines, or patterns, drawn on the ground using either paint or thermoplastic. Hence, by using playground markings, schools can easily convert a tarmac area suitable for outdoor activities. Furthermore, these markings can serve many purposes, such as substituting for a netball court, creating a number grid, or location for games such as hopscotch. These are also fairly used for road safety markings and to be used as a daily mile track. Different Types of Playground Markings As mentioned above, these playground markings can serve different purposes, making them dynamic enough for use in schools. Schools can use paint or thermoplastic to transform their ground to stimulate learning and physical activities. Based on how they are used, there are a few types of playground markings, such as: Educational Playground Markings Schools can make use of educational playground markings as learning aids, making them a fantastic tool for incorporating numeracy and literacy concepts via designs. In fact, these playground markings are widely used in primary schools, playschools, and early childhood learning centers. Playground Games Markings

  3. Schools can also use these playground markings for fun and game activities. By relying on these markings, they can introduce traditional games like hopscotch and tag to the children. This can not only be fun but equally educational for the students. Track and Sports Markings Yes, playground markings are not limited to the grounds of the school; they can also be used on the track field or sports courts such as basketball, volleyball, football, and so on. How To Properly Care For Playground Markings To care for playground marking, one has to first ensure whether the markings are made using paint or thermoplastic, as the maintenance process for both differs quite a lot. Suppose you are using thermoplastic, then maintaining the playground markings can be simple, as all you have to do is follow the tips mentioned below: ● Try to sweep the area that is marked at least once a week. By keeping the playground markings clean and keeping the debris and dirt away, you can ensure the longevity of these markings. ● Schools need to also clean the markings with a mild detergent in case grime accumulates on them. ● Also, hose down the markings once every month to ensure the marking lasts longer without any dust or dirt. ● You can also use jet wash, but let us remind you to be careful. Only use this if the dirt is rather persistent and not washing off. ● You should also avoid dragging heavy objects across these markings to protect their surface. ● Lastly, make sure to apply mild detergents only, avoiding harsh chemicals. Also, rinse it off after use. As long as you follow these tips, you can ensure the longevity of your playground markings.
