  1. What Are Custom Suppressor Wraps? A custom suppressor wrap provides many important functions when hunt- ing or shooting with a precision rifle suppressor or silencer. These functions include protecting the user from heat generated from the suppressor, they mask against heat or optical mirages, they protect the suppressor from damaging nicks and scraps and they can reduce mechanical discharge noise. The most important function of custom suppressor wraps is that they mask the heat signature generated from the suppressor. The silencer tends to get excep- tionally hot after rapid fire shooting. Temperatures can reach up to five hundred degrees Fahrenheit within minutes, which is why it's not recommended to touch the suppressor after shooting. Two thirty round clips can reach temperatures of more than eight hundred degrees Fahrenheit. Touching the suppressor by mistake is easily done, the suppressor wrap reduces the risk of serious burns. Due to these extremely hot temperatures, heat waves form, also known as heat or optical mirages. These are created by the suppressor and can decrease visibility, which makes shooting long distances difficult. It's not uncommon for the suppres- sor to start smoking, this can occur in cooler seasons which in turn can negatively impact the shooters vision.

  2. Suppressor wraps are a great idea when shooting in warmer climates as the user is able to shoot a number of rounds before the risk of a heat mirage. In most cases a heat mirage will only start in a hot climate after three rounds or more. The cover allows the usr to shoot in the range of twenty rounds before the risk of a heat mi- rage. Custom suppressor wraps are a good way to camouflage the suppressor without having to paint it. They also protect the suppressor from dings and scratches as well protecting it against wear and tear caused by environmental conditions. Another function of a cover is to reduce mechanical noises made during firearm discharge. Suppressors reduce the sound of firing but also still create sound. A cover will hold things tighter in place or dampen the sound. Suppressor wraps come in a variety of designs, colors and they are fully customiz- able to suit all precision rifle shooters preferences. Suppressor wraps do have a one distinct disadvantage. The wrap acts as an insulator, this means it retains its heat, causing it to take longer for the suppressor to cool down after firing. It is ad- visable to allow the firearm to cool down between rounds to reduce the risk of overheating and potential burns. The best solution for using a suppressor and not having to worry about the ex- treme heat is to use a cover. There are many brands to choose from and different sizes for any suppressor. The covers also come in different colors and look really cool. They are relatively inexpensive and will last a long time.
