  1. Demystifying PCOD: Understanding Symptoms, Types, and Lifestyle Impacts In recent years, PCOD has become a more common health concern, especially among women experiencing fertility issues. As lifestyle trends shift, with many women focusing on education and careers before considering marriage or starting a family, issues like delayed conception have become more frequent. When visiting a doctor for fertility concerns, PCOD is often one of the first conditions that is checked for. While many people have heard of PCOD, there’s often confusion about what it actually is and what it entails. This blog aims to clear up that confusion by providing straightforward and accurate information about PCOD, helping you understand not just its impact on fertility, but the broader symptoms and factors associated with the condition. PCOD stands for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, also known as PCOS. PCOD is a common health problem among women. It affects women of reproductive age. PCOD is a common endocrine disorder caused by hormonal imbalance. The most important thing the general public should know about PCOD is that PCOD is not a single disease but rather a collection of symptoms caused by various underlying factors. Types of polycystic ovary disease: It is divided into 2 types. 1.Insulin-resistant PCOD: This type is associated with insulin resistance. In this type, the body’s cells do not respond effectively to insulin. This leads to an increase in the level of insulin in the blood. 2.Non - Insulin-resistant PCOD: In this type, insulin levels are in the normal range, but there are other hormone imbalances that can cause PCOD symptoms. Symptoms of polycystic ovarian disease: The symptoms of PCOS are not the same for everyone. These symptoms can vary from person to person and not all individuals experience all of the symptoms. Let’s take a look at some common symptoms: 1.Irregular Menstrual Cycles: Women with PCOD face certain problems during the menstrual cycle. For example – can have irregular periods, infrequent menstrual cycles or prolonged periods. Such features

  2. 2.Ovarian cysts: Those suffering from PCOD will know through proper medical examination that many small cysts have developed on the ovaries. This leads to the appearance of something like a “string of pearls” on ultrasound. 3.Infertility: PCOD interferes with ovulation in women. This can cause problems during pregnancy. This causes infertility. 4.Excess Androgen Levels: In some people, the production of male hormones (androgens) occurs. The increased production of these hormones can lead to symptoms such as acne, excessive hair growth (hirsutism), and male pattern baldness. 5.Weight gain: Weight gain is a common symptom for many women with PCOD. No matter how hard they try to lose weight. 6.Insulin resistance: Some women with PCOD may have insulin resistance, which increases the risk of type 2 diabetes. 7.Skin Changes: Skin changes such as skin tags, skin darkening (acanthosis nigricans), and skin discoloration can occur. Many people are unaware of this condition and it can lead to serious health problems. Side effects Polycystic ovary disease: Yes, you may have ignored PCOD, but you will still experience its side effects. One of the biggest side effects of neglecting someone with PCOD is that if a person with PCOD is not given the right treatment at the right time, or is not managed properly, PCOD can lead to a variety of health problems, including: 1.Infertility: Irregular ovulation or lack of ovulation can interfere with getting pregnant for women with PCOD. If the right treatment is received at the right time, there will be no problem in reproduction. Some suffer from infertility without knowing the seriousness of the condition and without getting proper treatment. 2.Diabetes: Women with PCOD, especially those with insulin resistance, are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. 3.Cardiovascular problems: PCOD is associated with high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, and an increased risk of developing heart disease. 4.Endometrial cancer: Rare or absent periods can lead to thickening of the uterine lining, which can increase the risk of endometrial cancer.
