  3. Visual Effects Visual effects (VFX) are any kind of digital or practical manipulations applied to video footage or images in post-production to enhance or create a scene that cannot be achieved practically during filming. VFX can include anything from adding digital characters or creatures to changing the weather or environment, among others. Here are some examples of how visual effects are used in film and television: • Adding digital creatures: One of the most common uses of visual effects in films is the addition of digital creatures like dragons, aliens, or mythical beasts that couldn't be achieved practically. • Creating environments: Visual effects are used to create realistic and believable environments such as creating an entire city or changing the time of day.

  4. Explosions and destruction: Visual effects can be used to create realistic-looking explosions, fire, or destruction without actually destroying anything on set. • Green screen: The use of green screens allows for actors to be filmed in front of a green background that will later be replaced with a digital environment or characters. • Enhancing performances: Visual effects can be used to enhance or manipulate an actor's performance such as creating facial expressions or making them look younger or older. • Removing wires or rigs: Visual effects are used to remove any rigging or wires used to make an actor appear as if they're flying or suspended in the air.

  5. Two Type of Visual effects (VFX) Practical Effects and Digital Effects Practical Effects Practical effects, also known as physical or mechanical effects, are created using real-world objects, substances, or techniques on the set while filming. These effects are created by a special effects team that may use different materials like prosthetics, models, miniatures, or pyrotechnics to create the effect. Some examples of practical effects are: • Puppetry: Puppetry involves using physical puppets to create lifelike movements or expressions of characters, creatures or objects. • Makeup Effects: Makeup effects can transform an actor's appearance using prosthetics, wigs, or contact lenses. • Miniatures: Miniatures are small-scale models of buildings, vehicles or sets that are photographed to appear life-size or larger. • Pyrotechnics: Pyrotechnics are used to create fire, explosions or smoke effects during filming.

  6. Digital Effects Digital effects, also known as computer-generated imagery (CGI), are created using software and computers in post-production. These effects can range from adding subtle enhancements to a scene to creating entirely new worlds or characters. Some examples of digital effects are: • Green Screen: Green screen or chroma key technology allows actors to be filmed in front of a green screen, which is later replaced with a digital background or set. • Matte Painting: Matte painting is a digital painting that creates background scenery, landscapes, or cityscapes that cannot be captured practically during filming. • CGI Characters: CGI characters are digital models or creations that can be added to a scene to interact with real-life actors. • Particle Effects: Particle effects are used to create environmental effects such as fire, smoke, or water simulations. In conclusion, practical and digital effects are both essential to creating immersive and visually appealing scenes in film and television. Practical effects can bring a physicality and tangibility to a scene, while digital effects can expand the creative possibilities of what can be achieved on screen.
