Radiation Treatment

Radiation treatment works by damaging the DNA inside cancer cells, which prevents them from growing and dividing. This can help to shrink tumours and improve symptoms. Radiation therapy is usually given as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that also includes surgery and chemotherapy.

  1. Radiation Treatment

  2. What is Radiation Therapy? Radiation therapy is the use of high-energy waves or particles to destroy cancer cells. It works by damaging the DNA of cancer cells, which prevents them from growing and spreading. Radiation treatment can be used to treat a wide variety of cancers, including brain, breast, lung, and gastrointestinal cancers. There are two main types of radiation treatments: external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) and internal beam radiation therapy (IBRT). EBRT uses a machine outside the body to deliver the radiation, while IBRT uses a device that is placed inside the body near cancer. Radiation therapy may be used alone or in combination with surgery, chemotherapy, or other treatments. The side effects of radiation therapy vary depending on the type and dose of radiation, as well as the part of the body that is being treated. Common side effects include fatigue, skin changes, hair loss, and nausea. However, these side effects are usually temporary and will go away after treatment is completed.

  3. How Does Radiation Therapy Work? Radiation treatment, also called radiotherapy, uses high-energy waves to damage cancer cells and stop them from growing. Radiation therapy can be used alone or with other cancer treatments, such as surgery or chemotherapy. There are two types of radiation therapy: external beam radiation therapy and internal beam radiation therapy. External beam radiation therapy uses a machine to aim high-energy waves at your body. Internal beam radiation therapy puts the source of the waves inside your body. Most people go for external beam radiation therapy. You will probably go to a hospital or cancer treatment centerfor radiotherapy. The length of each treatment depends on the type and stage of the cancer being treated, but it is usually given in short sessions over several weeks. Pros and Cons of Radiation Therapy Radiation therapy is a type of cancer treatment that uses high-energy beams to kill cancer cells. It can be used to shrink tumours, relieve symptoms, and improve quality of life.
