  1. WHAT'S A CAMSHAFT

  2. CAMSHAFT A camshaft is a rotating metal component with pointed cams that convert rotational motion to reciprocal motion. Camshafts can be found in internal combustion engines, mechanically controlled ignition systems, and early electric motor speed controllers.

  3. How does Camshaft work? A camshaft is a rotating and sliding rod that converts rotational motion into linear motion. The camshaft is pushed by the machinery, which causes it to shift away from the axis of rotation, causing a change of motion.

  4. Types of Camshafts 1) Flat tappet cam A flat tappet cam is not, in fact, flat. A little crown adorns the face of these cameras. As the lifter spins on the lobe, it is positioned so that the lifter and lobe travel in opposite directions. The lobes of this cam have a little tapering curve to them. 2) Roller Cams The rounded tip of the roller cam allows it to keep the valve open for extended periods of time at high lift, which affects the fuel-air mixture requirements. The form of the lobe also helps the valve open quickly.

  5. Types of Camshafts Here's a problem with the engine. Quickstart Auto Electrical is here to help. Whether there's an issue with your camshaft, crankshaft, or anything else, we'll figure it out quickly. Visit quickstartauto.co.nz for additional questions and information.
