Growing popularity of podcasting: Why it is the next big thing? Qrius News,Media, digital magazine Blog about February 3, 2022 There has been a frenzy of online material in the previous several years, whether it's streaming platforms, films and shows in the audio-visual realm, or podcasts. In India, the latter has grown in favour, maybe because in today's 'hustle' culture, individuals prefer solutions that allow them to accomplish numerous things at once. Audio is experiencing a revival. It's because, as content consumers, we're at a crossroads where the balance between "how we consume material" and "how much attention it demands" is rapidly shi?ing. Due to the pandemic-induced lockdown, Indians turned to audio content that was devotional, spiritual, and entertaining. The first criminal original, Death, Lies & Cyanide, was released in September by Swedish audio streaming platform Spotify, which began original podcasts in the nation late last year. The Ranveer Show, a motivational show produced by Ranveer Allahbadia, TED Talks Daily, Harry Potter At Home: Readings, and The Michelle Obama Podcast were among the top podcasts in India during the summer. Because of the rising demand in news podcasts, the site created a covid-19 centre, which is a collection of podcasts from CNN, BBC World, ABC News, and other sources. "Gen Z in India is redefining their position in society — they're rewriting the rules and are ready to act on some of the most important concerns and possibilities we face." Spotify's Culture Next Trends Report stated, "When asked about the elements that fuel their self-discovery, 65 percent cited music and 60 percent indicated podcasts." Bumble stated in a statement released at the launch of its audio series that podcasts are a strong medium that Gen Z and millennial consumers in India listen to on a daily basis. Meanwhile, JioSaavn and Gaana, as well as Apple, report a growth in their podcast catalogues as well as the amount of time people spend listening to them. As of September 2020, JioSaavn, Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries' audio streaming service, had seen its podcast repertoire grow by 200 percent from 2019, with over 60% of users aged 18 to 35 years
reporting listening to podcasts weekly. According to the PricewaterhouseCoopers analysis, India's monthly podcast listener base would rise at a 30.4 percent compound annual growth rate over the next five years. As a result, the rise of podcasts may only be the beginning. But what is it about podcasts that makes them so popular in India? Visual format has resulted in a level of screen fatigue, which made customers seek more for passive sources of material. This is where audio came into play. Podcasts brought audio to the digital world with on-demand listening, easy creation, and distribution (much as blogs did for text and YouTube did for video), and social audio is taking it to the next level. Qrius News,Media, digital magazine Blog about It has a space for every form of content whether it is long conversational programmes or bite-sized programmes. News, fiction, and reenactment-based storytelling will come under conventional long-form podcasts. On the other hand, short-form content includes mythology, news, motivational stu?, or comedy. It capitalises on our inattention as digital entertainment consumers by o?ering short episodes more o?en. Previous Next Return to site Powered by Strikingly
