Odia Book UktalItihasa By Pandit Krupasindhu Mishra As evidenced by the discovery of Acheulian implements from this time period in several locations throughout the area, Odisha's human history may be traced back to the Lower Paleolithic. Early allusions of Odisha can be found in books dating back thousands of years, including the Mahabharata, the MahaGovinda Sutta, and various Puranas. Due to marine trade relations, the location was also known to other East Indies kingdoms. The year 1568 CE is regarded as a turning point in the history of the area. The Sultanate of Bengal's soldiers, under the command of the iconoclastic general Kalapahad, took control of the area in 1568 CE. The area's political identity was gone. The subsequent kings of the area were more like tributary lords than true kings. The Marathas gained power following 1751.
