Mitsubishi cars came to India after the Birla Group-owned, Kolkata-based, the Hindustan Motors Limited (HML), the makers of the Ambassador cars in collaboration with with the Japanese giant, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation in 1998 and launched the Mitsubishi Lancer passenger cars with powerful and efficient 1.5-liter petrol and 2.0-liter diesel engines.

However, the company discontinued Lancer along with some other popular models such as the Mitsubishi Cedia, Mitsubishi Montero and Mitsubishi Outlander and launched the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in 2012. • The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2.5 MT Diesel is a powerful SUV with many utility and safety measures is presently at the company’s unit located at Thiruvallur in Tamil Nadu.

An Ex-showroom price for Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is between from Rs 25.15 and 25.94 lakhs. • The new SUV is fitted with a 2.5l DI-D Variable Geometrical Turbo Diesel engine mated to a 5-speed AT or MT, while the 4 wheel drive (4WD) is available only on the manual one and 4x2 is offered on the automatic version. • The Pajero Sport got a cosmetic update in late 2014 with revamped bumpers, front grille, tailgates and interiors too.

  5. Engine and Transmission: • The new 2015 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Automatic Transmission, the only turbo diesel SUV in India with paddle shifters. This vehicle is powered by a 2.5 liter, four cylinder, 16 valve intercooler turbocharged DI- Diesel engine which is capable of churning out peak power of 178 Ps at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of a whopping 350 Nm between 1800 to 3500 rpm.

Safety features: • This SUV has received ventilated disc brakes at the front and rear comes with ventilated drum brakes, along with features like anti-lock-braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution and hydraulic brake booster. SRS airbags are employed on driver and co-passenger seats, collapsible steering column, 3-point ELR seat belt for all seats; anti-intrusion brake pedal, electronic immobilizer and crash detection door lock system shutdown are some of the other eminent safety equipment offered on the variant. • Some of the other cars to be launched in 2016 are the Mitsubishi EVO XI in January, Mitsubishi Mirage in April, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Facelift in June and Mitsubishi Grandis December.
