  1. HAFED To Export 85000 MT Basmati Rice To UAE Long, slender-grained aromatic rice known as basmati is typically grown in India, Pakistan, and Nepal. Sreenivas, the managing director of HAFED, announced on 22nd February 2023 that a Saudi Arabian importer has placed an order for 85,000 metric tons (MT) of basmati rice worth Rs 850 crore for its import. An order for 33,000 MT of this, he claimed, has already been carried out, and the remaining orders were still being carried out. “Encouraged with successful export to Saudi Arabia, HAFED has planned to expand its export business in other countries also.” said Sh. Sreenivas. At the same time, he continued, HAFED has given farmers the highest prices for the purchase of basmati paddy in mandis this year, benefiting the farmers. "HAFED is also making commercial purchases of basmati paddy and has procured 2.75 lakh MT basmati paddy from farmers during the current financial year," the managing director mentioned.
