(And the VAT Increase) Petrol prices in the UK hit a near all time high this week with the expectation that the government levy combined with the VAT increase will send them into new territory early in 2011. Car Remapping, Engine re-mapping, ECU Tuning or chipping are all phrases you might of heard of when referring to changing the Engine Control Unit of a vehicle to get more performance and miles per gallon (MPG) from your car. Whilst more or less every driver would want both of these, very few car or van owners would want to modify their vehicle with extras such as a larger exhaust or an induction kit simply to gain the small improvements they could offer. Remapping or Chipping can help your car gain more performance and MPG whilst keeping the vehicle looking aesthetically the same. This makes Remapping a more efficient way to wake up your car's true potential giving you an improved response from the throttle, greater economy in terms of MPG and more efficient towing abilities. When Engine Control Units (ECU's) became common with newer injection based engines which replaced the older style carburettor engines the process through which engine tuning was done changed and become digital. Instead of tinkering with the engine the traditional way with experience and a screwdriver, a computer, specially written software and linking wires became the only way to talk directly to the car. The chips that made up the brain of the car were now the components which needed the tinkering. Early car Tuning involved replacing the ECU Chip with another one, remapped specially for the car. As time went on remapping the car's ECU chip directly has become the best way to remap a car. Enabling car tuners to change the fuel mix levels, the levels of turbo control, the torque of the vehicle, the drive-by-wire response and the load placed on the engine. All of these can be done by remapping.

  2. By remapping your car or vehicle you can benefit not just today from the improvements to your car but also in the future. An increased miles per gallon (MPG ) will be a real benefit in 2011 and you should see a significant improvement in the cost of running your car. Petrol prices in January will probably be near £1.25 per litre and by the end of the year could be as high as £1.30+ per litre. Improving your MPG by a few miles per gallon will really pay off over this time frame. Wake Up Your Car is one of many companies which have remapped hundreds of vehicles since remapping became common and popular. Testimonials from drivers who have received a ECU remap for their cars are that power and torque improvements along with increased MPG means that the remapping costs are recovered through running cost savings over the coming months. Both petrol and diesel vehicles can be remapped. This includes all cars, vans, trucks and lorries. Diesel vehicles can benefit with improvements to power and torque of 30% upwards. Petrol engine vehicles can improve by 20% after remapping with an even greater percentage improvement made to turbocharged vehicles.
