Why Rome with CUA? • Rome is one of the most significant cities for the development of western culture • It is centrally located, with easy travel to the rest of Italy and the rest of Europe • It is the central city of the Catholic Church • There is always something happening in the city: music, culture, food, religion The Catholic University Of AmericaRome Program

  5. Why Rome with CUA? • CUA’s Rome program is run directly by CUA and staffed with CUA staff • The courses are listed in Cardinal Station and count as regular CUA courses • All financial aid (except work-study) is valid during the Rome semester The Catholic University Of AmericaRome Program

What is provided? • Full 16-week semester program, with the possibility of taking a full load of regular, CUA courses • On-site director and assistant director • Modern dormitory facilities, with air-conditioning, wireless internet, a residence assistant, and a 24-hour security guard • Partial meal plan: Food vouchers for 60 euro each week (except the semester break) • Passes for Rome’s public transportation for the full 16 weeks • Two three-day excursions, plus two day trips • Several group meals • An orientation weekend

  12. Facilities The CUA Rome campus is located within a beautiful 19th-century building owned by the Vincentians, The Congregation of the Mission, a religious order founded by St. Vincent de Paul. Through a partnership with St. John's University, CUA students benefit from  • Modern classrooms. • High-speed wireless internet. • A fully-wired computer lab with printers. • A small library for quiet study. • Air-conditioned/heated facilities. • 24-hour security with key-card access. Fall • Dormitory accommodations • Warm start, cool finish • September: usually warm—in the 80s • October/November: starts to rain, temperatures drop, arriving in the 50s by mid November Spring • Opportunity for host families • Chilly, getting warm towards the end • December-February: usually cold and clear, temperatures in the 30s or 40s • March-April: starts to rain, temperatures rise, arriving to the 70s by mid-April The Catholic University Of AmericaRome Program

  22. Trips: Rome While in class, you will visit many of the places, monuments, churches, and museums of Rome that have established their place in history. Your professors will help you understand their meaning and impact. The Catholic University Of AmericaRome Program

  23. Trips: Italy Two three-day overnight trips and two day trips take you out into the Italian peninsula to learn about the importance of these other Italian cities, such as Siena, Assisi, Naples, and Sorrento. The Catholic University Of AmericaRome Program

  25. Cultural Events We organize many optional events throughout the semester so that you can make the most of the rich culture of Rome and Italy.   26. Spiritual Events Rome has never-ending opportunities to deepen your faith. Participation in a General Papal Audience is included in the program. We also help you get tickets to papal Masses. Volunteers from the North American College organize other spiritual events throughout the semester. The Catholic University Of AmericaRome Program

  27. Time to Travel Each semester includes a 10-day break, two three-day weekends, and some free weekends to give you time to explore on your own: Rome, Italy, and Europe are at your fingertips! The Catholic University Of AmericaRome Program

  28. Housing Students who study in Rome will be living in university-provided dormitory rooms. Students have the benefit of modern dormitories provided through CUA's long-standing relationship with St. John's University. The dorms feature double or triple rooms with a desk, wardrobe, and bed for each student, air conditioning/heating, bathrooms along the hallways, and wireless internet access. A CUA Resident Manager lives on your floor. There is a security guard on duty at the entrance at all times. For the spring semester, it is possible to apply to live with Italian host families. Eligibility • Full time, degree seeking student • A 2nd semester sophomore (45 credits) • A cum. 2.8 grade point average • Students should not study abroad during their last semester senior year, as it will interupt with graduating on time What Next? • Research the program and country • Speak to your Academic Advisor • Speak with Financial Aid • Speak with Career Services • Talk with former participants • Contact CUAbroad with any questions Rome
