The Ecosystem. What could the consequences of disturbing this finely balanced ecosystem be?. Scientists often refer to the Earth as an ecosystem. By this they mean the plants, animals and atmosphere of the Earth interact in a way to allow life on Earth to continue. The problem with an Eco System is that it is finely balanced and a disturbance in one part can have many consequences. The changes humans are making to the world through air, land and sea pollution could have many consequences. .
