Effects of Slash-and-Burn • Positive • Makes plenty of land to use for farming. • Creates a surplus (extra amount) of food. • The food is very nutritious. • Easy method of clearing a large amount of land. • Negative • Destroys habitat for animals. • Releases carbon dioxide (greenhouse gasses) into the atmosphere. • Destroys the land for future use. • Farmer needs to rotate crops.
