What is time management? It is a set of skills that enables a more effective use of personal or professional time. Few people master this skill, but it is one that most of us need It includes a set of tools that help in planning and scheduling activities

Activity 1 Where does Your time go?
Where should I start? • Know your position in spending time • Time management begins with the use of a calendar or planner • Yearly • Monthly • Weekly • Daily
About plans…. • Long term plan (year plan) • You should have some targets that you should do in the next 12 months. These could include important dates related your studies and family/social events. • Monthly • List specific tasks you need to do in the coming month • Weekly • List what you need to do in the coming week. Less likely to be avoided or changed or postponed • Daily • Write down what you have to do tomorrow. You should definitely do these.
Long term plan (year) • Include important dead lines, examination dates, lab dates, family/social events you need to attend, events related to work place. • Use a wall calendar and put it in a place where you spend most of your time. You could also write them down in the year planner section of your business diary.
Monthly/Weekly plans • At the end of each month prepare a plan for the next month/Week. • See whether you have kept to the work plan of the current month, now it is going to be over. • If some tasks could not be done think of reasons for that and be realistic for the next month. If you feel time was not enough, think of time wasters and get rid of them with determination. • For this purpose you could use a diary or a book.
Activity 2 Refer the activity 1 on time usage and identify and mark time wasters.
Monitor your time If you feel like you don’t have enough time spend a few days monitoring your time to see exactly how it is spent.
Making to-do lists Know your options • Do it now • The most important things with approaching dead lines need to be done first • Schedule it • Break up large tasks into smaller parts and schedule each part • Ask someone else to do it • In a study group or team, each person can be responsible for a portion
