  1. Uses • The automotive industry is the largest market for aluminum castings • More than half of the aluminum used in cars. • Used in transportation industry like aircraft and marine engines and other equipments. • Parts of small appliances, hand tools such as for carpentry, plumbing, and garden, water and air pumps, lawnmowers, cooking wares, kitchen utensils, home decorations and different appliances, electronics and casing for high tech gadgets, various children’s toys

  2. Most common types • Aluminum Die Casting • Aluminum Investment Castings • Permanent Casting • Sand Casting • Plaster Casting • Shell Casting • Lost Foam Aluminum Casting

  3. Aluminum Die Casting • Process: aluminium or other molten metal is forced into the molds under high pressure. • Used in automobile, aerospace and power tool industries. • Types • low-pressure die casting, • vacuum die casting, • squeeze die casting and • semi-solid die casting

  4. Aluminum Investment Castings/ Lost Wax Casting • Process: wax is injected (invested) into a die as part of the process of producing an exact pattern of the item that is to be manufactured. • Uses: electronics, defense, aerospace, avionics, pump, engine, and valve industries.

  5. Permanent Casting • Process: Use of gravity or vacuum to cast molten metal into the mold. • Advantage: Quite cost-effective and suitable for large number of castings • Uses: gears and gear housings, pipe fittings, and other automotive and aircraft components such as pistons, impellers, and wheels.

  6. Sand Casting • One of the oldest methods • Process: Used for making sand moulds only. A pattern is made in the shape of the desired part. • Benefits: Sand casting is the least expensive of all castings including processes, including die and investment casting.

  7. Plaster Casting • Process: Plaster slurry Poured around wax then is baked. By doing so, the pattern will melt which will leave give you the desired shape.

  8. Shell Casting • Uses a resin covered sand to form the mold • Shell castings are used for producing castings with accurate dimension • Quite expensive and hence is not used on a large scale

  9. Aluminum Casting Custom Components • Aluminum casting is very suitable for high quality and precision-required custom components • For this reason, most of high end engine equipments use aluminum components

  10. lost foam aluminum casting • Lost-foam casting (LFC) is a type of evaporative-pattern casting process that is similar to investment casting except foam is used for the pattern instead of wax. This process takes advantage of the low boiling point of foam to simplify the investment casting process by removing the need to melt the wax out of the mold.
