Remote Education Advantages and Disadvantages

Remote user testing has advanced as part of the increase in remote education. It is a modern form of technological innovation that could become the preferable method of student testing. Since students and proctor monitors are in separate locations, it provides the use of advanced online tools that collect data and generate insights much faster than traditional methods of testing since tests are data-driven.

  1. Remote Education Advantages & Disadvantages Remote education has its advantages and disadvantages, and it has developed into a modern method of learning during a time when schools around the world have been forced to move classes online. As a result of its technological advances and success, eye tracking software used in the course of remote education, along with real time gaze analytics, will likely remain a permanent fixture in the education system for the long term. Many aspects of remote education will continue to improve, even with the lack of in-person learning and/or testing. Remote students can be a broader and more diverse range of people from different parts of the country, or even the world. Requiring students to get to a specific testing site frequently becomes a challenge, so with remote testing used in remote education, students can participate in a more natural environment. Remote education and remote user testing is becoming more and more popular in our modern day world full of complicated schedules.

  2. In order to perform remote education and remote user testing, eye tracking software is installed to hardware, then utilized to run with viewing/recording software. During remote testing, a single proctor has the ability to confirm numerous students’ identities, as well as simultaneously monitor them from a remote location as they take their tests online. Students are actively monitored via video. Proctors utilize eye tracking software to follow where students’ eyes travel, and it alerts the proctor to behavior that could indicate cheating. During remote proctoring, feeds may be recorded as a backup method of observation. During advanced automated proctoring, feeds may monitor for suspicious behavior. A single proctor overseeing remote students means fewer staff is needed and less training of staff is required. Proctors can teach, and test, a lot more people in a lot less time, and with far less effort. A large sample size of test participants can also provide more accurate data. As proctors examine the behavior of remote students, they learn how long users take to develop a process, and how long they spend on each part of that process. This provides insight into students’ thought processes, and knowledge about their behavior by observing how students interact with content. Proctors are also able to monitor students for distractions or fatigue, or if students’ attention is wandering. Students’ eyes become windows to their intentions as proctors are able to see what they see. Technology is passing on that attribute to computers as more is learned about eye movements and its advantages and disadvantages during remote education. FOR REFERENCE
