  1. Why is occupational therapy used for treating autism? Occupational therapy ranks as another important therapy that works well for children after ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis). This helps your child handle the day- to-day activities. This might be a common aspect for a normal human being. But autistic children deserve help and support, which is provided by occupational therapy. Empower Therapy recommends occupational therapy for children who need to develop basic habits for their normal life. This could be found in a complex manner. Treatments do not work the same way for every child, and each child takes their own time to produce results. This could be a short or extended period. Treatments are also treated. Each child is diagnosed with a unique problem and treated in accordance with its functions and needs.

  2. Occupational therapy concentrates on two main aspects, which are evaluation and therapy giving. The children are assigned tasks, and the outcomes or facilitations of the tasks are observed. Finally, a conclusion is drawn, defining the child’s activity. The children are observed in their early life videos. People can understand the status of their child and work with plans accordingly. No therapy for autism is fixed. There are no permanent therapy styles either. Every child would be understood about their activities and would be treated according to their needs, which could be customized for each child. The therapy particularly concentrates on your child’s everyday activities. These are quite basic, like handling food, buttoning a shirt, and so on. You could also include your child’s improvement in social interactions, behavior, motor skills, overall development, and behavior enhancement. Everyday life skills like independence in using restrooms and feeding could also be inculcated. Children with autism are found to have constant mood swings and extremes of anger and anxiety. These are better managed with occupational therapy to reduce those episodes of difficulty. In most cases, challenging these tasks with regular sessions can help with your child’s initial development. There is a subspecialty of occupational therapy called pediatric occupational therapy. This helps one with dressing themselves, some developmental delays, and other participation interests. There would be goals set to achieve improvements for each child. Each goal would be achieved while moving on with learning the next. This helps the child to enjoy their learning while working on enhancing their habits. This also builds up an interest for your child to continue with learning. Working on those objectives by both the parents and the child could result in the child's improvement speeding up. It is necessary to do the same with the children for increased results. You may always question your therapist about the activities that are given to your children. This is to understand the purpose of the same, along with helping the therapist while having the sessions.
