  1. How Does ABA Therapy Work? ABA is an approach to understanding and altering behavior. It is a collection of ideas and procedures that help educate autistic people about new abilities and minimize their challenging behavior. Techniques and methods used in ABA therapy can help autistic children develop their social skills, self-care skills, communication skills, play skills, and behavior management abilities. It can also help with challenging behaviors such as inattention, aggressiveness, and yelling. Let our Empower therapy teach you how it works,

  2. Consultation: To begin, speak with an ABA-trained therapist. The therapist will inquire about your child's abilities and challenges. They will spend time interacting with your child to observe their behavior, level of communication, and talents. They may also visit you at home or school to examine your child's conduct during normal daily activities. Targeting Behavior: ABA therapy starts with the behavior analyst monitoring your kid and identifying behaviors and abilities that need improvement, based on the theory that behavior, or adjusted via praise and consequences. Once a problematic behavior has emerged, the therapist will devise an ABA-based method to transform it into the "target behavior." ABC Approach: A child's behavior can be understood and changed through ABC therapy. Antecedent, Behavior, and Consequence are the three letters that make up the acronym ABC. Before starting therapy, the ABC approach helps figure out how a child behaves. The antecedent is then changed or adjusted to obtain the desired behavior. A child who misbehaves when being disturbed from playing, for example, could benefit from Applied Behavior Analysis therapy. The antecedent is a child absorbed in their play. The ABC technique could be used in the following way by a therapist. Antecedent: Before the behavior occurs. For example, the therapist may inform the child that they may play for two minutes extra but only at the end of the time. Behavior:

  3. The child's behavior is crucial. For example, after two minutes of play, the child puts away the toys. Consequence: What follows from a particular action. For example, the therapist may praise the child verbally ("Good job!") or physically (high five, thumbs up). These are the techniques used in ABA therapy to diagnose and treat autism. Regular Assessment: ABA therapists work to identify the root reasons for behaviors to assist your kid or improve them. Your child's therapist may modify their approach during therapy based on how your child responds to various methods. If your child is receiving treatment, their therapist will continue to assess their progress and analyze which strategies are successful and where your child may benefit from other treatment approaches. Many children with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) have benefited from ABA by learning developmental skills. It can help enhance communication skills while decreasing hazardous behaviors such as self-injury. Try to remember that, while ABA is an excellent therapy for aiding, please contact our Empower therapy for more information.
