PaintJet A Smart and Innovative Solution for Labour Shortages in the Painting Industry

For quite some time, the painting industry has been experiencing a manpower shortage. However, not everyone in the same industry understands the gravity of the situation. After experiencing the magnitude of the painting industry's workforce needs firsthand, creator Nick Hegeman founded PaintJet. He and co-founder Steve Wasilowski collaborated to tackle the scarcity problem until they realized they were dealing with something far broader.

  1. PaintJet: A Smart and Innovative Solution for Labour Shortages in the Painting Industry For quite some time, the painting industry has been experiencing a manpower shortage. The History of PaintJet PaintJet aims to solve the ongoing labor shortages in the painting industry by creating a widget that helps turn regular painters into SuperPainters. While this idea seems to be a bit farfetched,

  2. founders Nick Hegeman and Steve Wasilowski insisted on pushing the idea believing that their smart innovation can help change the industry’s looming labor crisis. The Founders Prior to creating PaintJet, Nick Hegeman worked for ExxonMobil. He quit his job to buy a CertaPro Painters franchise and learned fast about the painting industry's labor difficulties. At one point, he had to fire staff and paint the work alone, despite the fact that he was 7 months pregnant. He understood at this point that there has to be a better way to encourage painters to paint faster, better, and for less money. Steve Wasilowski, on the other hand, has spent his whole career in the paint industry. His father had a painting company for 35 years, and he obtained his first-weekend job there. He has expertise in all elements of the painting industry, including working with paint producers, and owns and maintains his own painting firm. While Steve was working at a large paint firm, Nick began working on PaintJet. Around this time, Nick inquired about Steve's role as a co-founder. Despite the fact that the two had started collaborating, the firm was still in the planning phases until 2020. During the Covid-19 closure, the two were able to devote their whole attention to the new company. PaintJet: Taking the First Steps Nick and Steve decided to have a roadshow in 2020 to show off their MVP (minimum viable product), which they call version 1. At the time, they were still considering selling the gadget to artists. During COVID's height in June 2020, they traveled across the country for a nine-city road tour, from Nashville to Texas to California. The purpose was to show all of these painters, CertaPro Painters, seasoned painting contractors, and franchise owners their unique technology. The machine was not working correctly at the time. It would come apart, and reassembling it would take too long. Despite the fact that they had no understanding of what the product accomplished, they issued us with deposit checks.

  3. The demand revealed that company owners are looking for a solution to the labor problem. They desire automated equipment, but with a budget of $50,000 to $100,000, Nick and Steve won't be able to buy it. The two needed to raise a lot of money and do a lot. The roadshow proved that there was a need, but meeting it would necessitate a significant increase in technology. They could see the demand, but because they didn't have the correct product, they couldn't satisfy it. That's when they realized they were dealing with a bigger problem that demanded a more expensive solution After some time working on the answer, the two realized that they would never just sell gadgets to artists. We don't have enough painters, and painters don't have enough money, but that doesn't mean we won't figure anything out. A Smart and Innovative Solution to the impending Labour Crisis There aren't enough good painting companies to go around due to manpower shortages. This is a problem that many of our clients are having as well. It became clear that PaintJet would be the robotics solution provider and that the industry would be revolutionized. It's not about selling widgets; instead, it's about giving robots as a service and selling them to clients directly.

  4. Nick's technical skills and Steve's painting and paint industry understanding combine to provide a solution that will have a significant impact on the painting industry. It's not just a tool to help painters do their jobs better and faster; it's also a solution to address manpower shortages.
