Suffix – When all of the dateless combinations had been used it was the turn of the suffix registrations. These consist of three characters, a space, one to three number and finally another character. The final character in the reg is the age identifier. This format was used from 1963 until 1983 Prefix – Following the suffix plates from 1983 to 2001 were prefix registrations. This time the age identifier comes first, followed by one to three numbers. After a space there is then three more character. Current – and finally, since 2001 we have seen the current format of number plates being used right up until the present day. It is also very rare that your private number plates would reduce in value. How much are private plates? The great thing about the private registration industry is there is something to suit everybody’s needs and pockets. You may have something in mind but a £250 budget, this is not a problem. Although, there are some expensive registrations that prove to be a little harsher on the bank. Maybe you have the opportunity to spend upwards of £5,000. This figure may allow you to find a private registration that is a little more personalised. Either way, it is possible to find your ideal private reg, no matter what’s in your wallet. Important things to know when buying private registrations • You cannot put private plates on a vehicle in an effort to make the vehicle appear younger than it actually is. • The vehicle you are assigning private registrations too must have a current MOT and Road Tax.
