  2. A defibrillator is a device that sends electrical energy, or shock, to the heart during treatment of cardiac arrest. • These AED gave ECG leads and adhesive patches. • These patches are placed on patient's chest that deliver the electric shock.

  3. Manual External Defibrillator • These defibrillator requires more experience and training to handle them effectively. • These are very common in hospitals and in a few ambulances. • They manually provide the cardiac rhythm and determines the voltage and timing of the shock.

  4. Implantable Cardioverter- Defibrillator • They monitor patient's heart, similar to a pacemaker, and can detect ventricular fibrillation. • When an abnormal rhythm is detected, the automatically determines the voltage of the shock to restore cardiac function.

  5. Wearable Cardiac Defibrillator • This device is capable of monitoring the patient 24-hours-a day. • It is only functional when it is worn and sends a shock to the heart whenever it is needed.
