  2. RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS (RA) Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that primarily affects the joints but can also impact other parts of the body. While the exact cause of RA is not fully understood, researchers have made significant progress in uncovering the factors that contribute to its development In this PPT, we'll explore the key points related to the occurrence of rheumatoid arthritis.

  3. AUTOIMMUNE RESPONSE RA is classified as an autoimmune disease because it occurs when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own healthy tissues, primarily the synovium, which is the lining of the membranes that surround the joints. This immune response triggers inflammation, leading to joint damage and other systemic symptoms. GENETIC PREDISPOSITION Genetics plays a crucial role in the development of RA. Individuals with a family history of the disease are at a higher risk. Certain genetic markers, such as the HLA- DR4 gene, are associated with an increased susceptibility to RA.

  4. IMMUNE SYSTEM DYSFUNCTION In individuals with RA, the immune system malfunctions, leading to the production of autoantibodies, such as rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPAs). These antibodies target healthy tissues, particularly in the joints, causing inflammation and damage. CHRONIC INFLAMMATION RA is characterized by chronic inflammation in the synovium, which leads to the thickening of joint lining, joint pain, and destruction of cartilage and bone. This inflammation can also affect other organs, such as the heart, lungs, and blood vessels, leading to systemic complications.

  5. EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT Early diagnosis and intervention are essential in managing RA effectively. Timely joint inflammation treatment can help slow the progression of the disease, relieve symptoms, and improve the quality of life for individuals with RA. RA is a chronic condition that requires ongoing medical management, including medications, lifestyle modifications, and sometimes surgical interventions, to help individuals lead healthier and more comfortable lives despite the challenges posed by this autoimmune disease.

  6. THANK YOU Early detection and intervention are key to achieving the best outcomes for those affected by RA. +91 7970 108 108 www.sriramakrishnahospital.com
