Personal protective equipment (PPE) forms an important part of the safety protocol for medical professionals working at the frontlines of the COVID 19 pandemic. Doctors, nurses, and other support staff come into daily contact with suspect or confirmed cases of infection and as such, they too are at risk of contracting the novel coronavirus. It is, thus, imperative that all healthcare workers keep themselves protected by wearing suitable PPE. • Now, there are certain guidelines to be followed for the proper selection, wearing, and removal of PPE. It is important to follow these in order to reduce the risk of infection. In this article, we take a look a few such PPE guidelines for COVID-19 readiness.
Guidelines on Wearing PPE • The medical worker must first determine the correct choice of PPE required. Before donning the PPE kit, the wearer must make sure that their hands are sanitized. First, put on the shoe cover or boots. Next wear the medical gown followed by face mask and face shield or goggles. Next wear the headcover. Now, sanitize hands once again before finally wearing the gloves.

Next, remove the medical gown and gloves and ensure that these are disposed properly. Now, sanitize your hands. Then, remove the head cover, face shield or goggles, and mask. Sanitize your hands properly once again. • All medical staff working in direct contact with patients should be thoroughly trained on these PPE guidelines for COVID-19 readiness.
