On this day, many people pay their respect to Lord Ganesh by welcoming him home and celebrating the day by worshipping him. It is very important to make sure that you observe and use the correct ingredients in your pooja. Missing out on important ingredients can result in attracting misfortune and you wouldn’t want to do that on such an auspicious day. Here is the Ganesh Chaturthi pooja samagri that you must have and their significance: 1.Red Flowers: Lord Ganesh loves red flowers. Due to this reason, on Ganesh Chaturthi, red hibiscus flowers are offered to Ganesha to please him. The fresh flowers symbolize beauty, fragrance, purity, and softness.

  2. 2.Betel Nut: It symbolizes the sacrifice of one’s ego to be at the mercy of the god one is worshipping. It sends the message to God that you have given up on your ego and are now ready to receive blessings from him. 3.Coconut: Coconut is a part of most religious events. In Ganesh Chaturthi pooja, it symbolizes the residence of Lord Shiva to be able to be showered with blessings from heaven. The breaking of the coconut that is done before the pooja begins, signifies being able to break through the hurdles of life. 4.Kumkum and Sandalwood: These ingredients purifies and protects you and your surroundings and also enhances the evil eye. Sandalwood is applied to the forehead of Lord Ganesh to calm him down and prevent making him angry. 5.Red Thread: This thread is used to symbolize the offering of cloth to the deity. It is tied around the Kalash. 6.21 blades of Kusha/Durva Grass: It is a symbol of fertility, rebirth, and renewal which Lord Ganesh is also a symbol of. 7.Modak: It is the favorite sweet of Ganesha and is hence used in the pooja. Other than these ingredients, the usual incense sticks and the lamp is lit to shoo away negative energy and purify the house so that lord Ganesh resides in it.
