What is land transportation in logistics?

Land transportation is the transportation of goods or passengers across land. Roads, highways, and railways are the three main methods of transportation in this sector. While roads are used for personal use, railways and highways are used to transport goods as well as passengers.

  1. BUSINESS PLAN | JANUARY 2020 What is land transportation in logistics? 01

  2. 02 Definition of land transport Land transportation is a term that refers to the process of transporting goods or materials from one place to another. It is the movement of products by land, this excludes water and air transport. The most common examples include railroads, roads, trucking and ground shipping companies like FedEx and UPS. A specialized form of freight forwarder, a land carrier, will use transportation systems to move products from any place in the world to another. They can transport anything that is not time sensitive or temperature sensitive. Land transportation involves moving raw materials and finished goods over a wide area of land, sea, trackways or an ocean as well as delivering important documents by courier services. 02

  3. The history of land transportation in logistics? The history of land transportation is very deep and beautiful. The creation of the first wheel marks a milestone in the development of the logistic industry. It makes transportation easier, more efficient and convenient. Land transport is a common form of transporting goods over long distances. In some cases, it may also be called ground transport or terrestrial transport .It is the movement of goods between two places on land. Land transport has been around for many years and has helped in trade, travel, military operations and other uses. The idea of putting goods on a wheel appears to have derived from the use of sledges or skis .One of the oldest designs is known as an "arctic sledge." In the 1800s, people started to build better wheels and use them for transportation. Wheeled vehicles have been in existence for thousands of years, and ancient civilizations used large wheeled carts to transport heavy goods.or images.

  4. 04 Land Transportation's impact on the environment? Transportation is a key factor in green house gases (GHG) and global warming. It is seeking for ways to reduce GHG and its contribution to climate change. In order to address the problem, it did not only have to focus on reducing vehicle emissions but also had been looking at other strategies which may contribute to reduce greenhouse gas emission from the transportation sector. Land transportation is responsible for a significant share in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from human activities, more than 33%. This is due to its large use of fossil fuels and high CO2 emission per distance traveled. The same problem has been experienced by all developing nations which have increasingly relied on road transport over rail as a result of increasing motorization. A study by International Energy Agency (IEA) assesses the effects of land transportation on climate change and finds that greenhouse gas emissions from road transport are mainly produced by power generation and fuel combustion. The report also indicates that when it comes to CO2, there is a high difference between countries' GHG emissions from road transport and motor vehicles. CO2 emission from the transportation sector is 3.4 tons per capita in the US while it is 0.7 ton per capita in China (Energy Efficiency Organization).

  5. 05 What is the economic impacts of Land Transportation's ? In terms of the economic impacts, land transportation sector plays an important role in any economy. This is because it provides a reliable means for passengers and freight to transport. It also creates jobs for those people who are seeking employment. According to experts (Seyedsharifi,2014), this industry had an estimated revenue of $5 trillion.
