Several years ago I tried a wax that was not strong enough. With a newly grown mustache, I knew I needed something stronger. I order a super strong wax. The stuff was like tar. I had to wash my hands a number of times to get it off. It was a mess and very difficult to work. In addition, I have a white, not gray, mustache and beard at age 73. That stuff was very dark and discolored my hair terribly. I next tried some "paste" from my local Walmart. Awful stuff with no hold. So, after lots of searching, I ordered the Death Grip Bare Bones. It is still pretty sticky, but not as bad as the other I had tried. The worst part for me is that it does discolor my white hair a bit to give it a yellowish brown tint. Not good. I think for those without white hair, this would be a good choice. I am still searching. Currently, I am trying 3 different products. First, plain 100% beeswax. Actually not bad. It is way less expensive than most waxes and works just the same. Overall, I am still learning to work with it. Next, I am trying hairspray. I spray some on a comb and run it through my mustache. It dries quickly and holds well. There is no discoloration, and the hair looks very normal, not waxed. Previously I used Mudstache, it worked ok, but on my walks in the cold breathing though my nose it the condensation would reconstitute it and look like there was white cream in my stache........ Viking revolution, was ok for a time, but they turned it into candle wax. It flaked up and was worthless. I haven't used all of these waxes yet, but sudden death is my favorite since it can be applied without heat and is a strong hold. Nothing wrong with barebones either! Death grip is a bit tacky and harder to work with but dang it's hold is stronger than Thor! Bone crusher is supposed to be as strong as death grip, but without the tack. These waxes don't flake up and are wonderful to work with, even when having to use heat. They have a natural pine ish smell that is pleasant. I'd rather not smell anything too strong. Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2024 Style: Death Grip Extra Strong Hold Verified Purchase I started using this for my fledgling mustache about 6 months ago. They have a great training wax, but it didn't really hold for long and it smelled heavily of pine, which I wasn't really a fan of. Then I got the Sudden Death, which was way better as the pine wasn't strong, and held well in the chilly winter weather. Now it's pretty much summer in Florida, and it can't hold up to the heat. So I tried the Death Grip, and while the hold is good, the pine seems overwhelming on this. I'm not sure why it's needed, as there are other ways to get tacky and firm without this scent component. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to switch brands until I can find one that holds in the Florida heat AND doesn't smell like a home depot lumber section. It is very, very sticky and will be difficult to get off your fingers and comb. You will need a blow dryer to apply it. First, make sure your moustache is completely dry. You're going to do one half at a time. What I do is use a blow dryer at high heat right up against the tin for about 5 seconds then use the provided pick to scoop out about half a pea's worth. I then use the blow dryer for another 5 seconds on what I scooped up and use my thumbnail to scrape it off, rub it between my thumb and index finger, and quickly apply it to my moustache hairs getting as much on there as possible. I then use the blow dryer on the moustache for 2 or 3 seconds and comb it through. Then I use my fingers to shape it. If you have coarse and curly hairs, this will not straighten everything out unless you apply an excessive amount which will end up looking very artificial. If you use just enough, you can get a general shape that stays in place all day and it will not look like you have anything on. Your moustache will be sticky, though, so avoid touching it. It could stick to someone else if you kiss them, too.
