  1. 4 Exercises to Improve Temporary Erectile Dysfunction Erectile dysfunction can be devastating and can take a toll on your emotional health. It is a common sexual problem among adult men. According to a study conducted on India’s sexual health issues, out of every 100 men with erectile dysfunction 25 are below the age of 30 years. To much relief, erectile dysfunction is mostly temporary, lasting for only a few weeks to a few months, and can be cured with a few exercises. What Is Temporary Erectile Dysfunction? Erection dysfunction (ED) is the inability to achieve or maintain an erection during sexual intercourse. ED can be categorized into two types – Situational ED and Temporary ED.

  2. Temporary erectile dysfunction, on the other hand, is ongoing rather than sporadic. It happens due to lifestyle risk factors such as the blood flow to the penis being impaired or the contraction of muscles needed to achieve an erection being affected. It may also be caused due to low testosterone levels or nitric oxide levels that enable engorgement of the penis during an erection. Temporary ED treatment is mostly due to unhealthy lifestyle habits and can be modified.   • What Causes Temporary Erectile Dysfunction? • Unhealthy lifestyle choices play a major role in causing erectile dysfunction or sexual dysfunction. Some of the key reasons behind temporary erectile dysfunction are. • Excessive smoking or drinking alcohol • Poor diet • Physical inactivity • Poor cardiovascular health (mostly in ageing men) • Overweight or obesity • Chronic stress • Metabolic syndrome, i.e., low testosterone levels in the body or lack of proper blood circulation • A side-effect of a medication

  3. How to Treat Temporary Erectile Dysfunction? With positive lifestyle changes, you can solve the problem of temporary erectile dysfunction and achieve normal erections again. Exercising strengthens pelvic floor muscles and can do wonders for your overall sexual well-being, saving you from embarrassing sexual dysfunction. Therapists recommend the following exercises to improve your sexual health: 1. Kegel Exercises Kegel exercise is clenching of pelvic floor muscles in order to strengthen them. Regular kegel exercise improves blood flow to the penis and strengthens pumping during ejaculation. To perform Kegel exercises, clench your pelvic floor muscle and hold for five seconds, then release. Repeat this 10-20 times, twice or thrice a day. Kegels can be done by lying on your back with your knees up, sitting, or even standing.

  4. 2. Cardiovascular Exercises • Cardiovascular or aerobic exercises include brisk walking, swimming, cycling, or running. These exercises allow you to breathe in more oxygen and improve your overall health, with significant improvement in temporary erectile dysfunction. A daily session of ‘cardio’ exercise for at least 30 minutes is enough to improve your cardiovascular health as it solves problems like being overweight, obesity, heart ailments, and diabetes that are directly linked to ED.

  5. 3. Pilates • Pilates exercises involve the right group of pelvic muscles and strengthen them to perform better sexually. It increases blood flow to the penis and boosts cardiovascular health. Knee fallouts, foot raises, and pelvic curls are some pilates exercises that are great for strengthening pelvic floor muscles.

  6. Yoga exercises are a good way to improve your sexual health and erectile dysfunction. The practice increases blood flow, improves flexibility, reduces stress, improves posture, and fosters mindfulness. Several asanas for pelvic floor muscles, include paschimottanasana, uttanasana, ordhanurasnanas. • Exercise for two hours per week for six months has shown improved erectile function in people with metabolic syndrome or obesity.

  7. Consult a Doctor • If your problem persists for months, it is advisable to consult a doctor regarding your sexual health. ED can sometimes signify serious health issues such as problems with the prostate, heart or kidney, or even diabetes. Medical intervention is necessary to understand the cause behind persistent erectile dysfunction treatment and the effective ways to cure it.
