History of the Ashanti/Asante
- At the end of the 17th cetury the Asante states were consolidated under the power of a king (Asantehene).
- Traditionally Agriculturally based
- Visits from two British envoys in 1817 and 1819 resulted in detailed publications on much of the art and culture of the Asante.
- War broke out between the Asante and British in 1874
