Misson Green Earth Stand Up And Take Action- Oman 2008 (MGESUTA) MGESUTA is an initiative taken by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Millennium Campaign (UNMC) in association with Art Of Living Foundation (AOL) to plant 100 million trees world wide between 15th July08 to 15th Oct08. As part of the world wide initiative we have the tree plantation initiative in Oman.

    3. Identify areas inside the school compounds, where trees can be planted Each student planting a plant/tree in his house terraces, balconies, compounds Create awareness amongst people in their flats about benefits of planting trees and encourage them to plant trees How can the schools contribute?

    13. School can arrange for saplings from private nurseries Contact us for saplings Where parents of children are in touch with any nurseries. They can contact those nurseries directly How to get the saplings?

Activities like Green week creating more awareness about benefits of trees School could also have their own quiz competition Any other ideas to make this event interesting What are the other activities?

    15. Photos of the trees/plants planted by the school to be mailed to us. Photos of trees/plants planted by the children to be mailed to us. Take count of the total number of trees planted by the school and school children fill it in Annexure I and mail it to us Stand up and take pledge on one of the days between 17th 19th Oct08. Mail the photo of pledge taking. What else needs to be done?

    17. NIST students in Bankok plant 4,000 trees. Four more intenational school students to plant 10,000 more trees. Blind school for girls in Poona clears weeds and subabul trees over 2 acres of land to plant 250 Lakshmi Taru trees. Seacliff park in Adelaide Australia plants 600 trees in their compound. Meghalaya plants 25,000 trees in schools, colleges and hospitals. Tamil Nadu plants 18,100 trees in the last week of August Members of Red cross join efforts in Nepal. Some of the activities around the world till date.

    18. Blind School for Girls Plants Trees for MGESUTA. Poona Blind Girls' School happily joined hands with Art of Living Pune volunteers when Priyanka Kulkarni a young volunteer from Pune approached the school principal Mrs. Sulbha Pujari. An Experience Sharing by Priyanka Kulkarni "The blind School had more than 2 acres of land which is covered by Subabul & weeds which they wanted to clear out. So we planned a drive of planting about 250

    19. saplings by clearing this land. The challenge was to get the weeds and subabul trees cleared. Some volunteers started clearing grass/weeds and digging pits a day before.

    20. The Manager of Cosmos bank branch in the school premises, Mrs. Sumant offered spontaneous donations for getting the laborors to do grass cutting for such a huge area. On 31st of August this drive started where about 15 volunteers of AOL actually started digging pits for plantation. The Art Excel brats joined their hands with this team and actually adopted the plants by giving them a name and the family name.

    21. The highlight of the event was plantation by blind girls and their superfast work for clearing out the grass in the plantation area. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm towards plantation activities. AOL volunteers and these girls together did a brilliant job by planting about 41 saplings of Lakshmi Taru and some local species. This drive will continue over weekends till we cover the land provided the the blind school."

    22. This is one prime example where a whole community comes together for Tree Plantation. Lamu island remembers SUSO (Stand up Speak Out) invites AOL volunteers for MGESUTA Schools and Hospital promises support MGESUTA08. Lamu, the small island of the Kenyan Coast is gearing up to MGESUTA . The tree plantation drive will start by Oct 3rd 3rd October.

    23. All SCHOOLS in Lamu Island, the HOSPITAL has promised to be involved in the campaign in a bigger way this time. It looks like the whole island is going to Stand up! :-) Adventure Trail by Assam Savita Bhutani shares her experience on how they trekked through the forest for Planting "Amazing grace is working. I met Mr. Vishnoi who is the Chief Conservator of Social forestry and had a detailed

    24. discussion about Mission Green Earth. He is a very proactive and supportive officer. When I told him that I have taken a sankalpa of planting 5 lakh trees in Assam, he immediately agreed and promised to provide 5lakh saplings from the Govt. for the programme.His foremost concern was survival and sustainability of plantations to be done. Yes YES club in Guwahati makes a beginning by planting 300 trees (An Adventurous trip):

    25. Under the initiative of Savita, yes club of Guwahati, Bhanu from Guwahati ashram and many other AOL members planted more than three hundred trees forest land guwahati zoo. Guava, amla, jack fruit, arjun and other local species of Assam has been planted.

    26. On the plantation day they had walk for about 2kms through the jungle on a very slippery hilly terrain as it rained heavily throughout the morning. It was remarkable to see every body's enthusiasm inspite of the bad weather and tough terrain. Everyone was in an adventurous mood and fully out to do seva."

    27. Australia does more in Adelaide Seacliff Park now has 600 more plants in the compound. Art of Living Volunteers took the initiative. Let the pictures do the talking...

Personal satisfaction and blessings from mother earth for taking part in this noble cause at a time when Global warming threatens our planet Each participating school will be given a participation certificate from UNEP and AOL. Winners of the essay competition 2 each for primary and secondary section will be given prizes. Each participating student will be recognised by the school for their efforts Schools to device a method like mentioning it in their progress reportetc. What are the rewards?
