  1. “Woe to you who are at ease in Zion, And trust in Mount Samaria, Notable persons in the chief nation, To whom the house of Israel comes!” (6:1) At Ease in Zion Amos 6:1-8

  2. Amos 6:3-6 “Woe to you who put far off the day of doom, Who cause the seat of violence to come near; 4Who lie on beds of ivory, Stretch out on your couches, Eat lambs from the flock And calves from the midst of the stall; 5Who sing idly to the sound of stringed instruments, And invent for yourselves musical instruments like David; 6Who drink wine from bowls, And anoint yourselves with the best ointments, But are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.”

  3. Amos 6:7-8 “Therefore they shall now go captive as the first of the captives, And those who recline at banquets shall be removed. 8The Lord GOD has sworn by Himself, The LORD God of hosts says:  "I abhor the pride of Jacob, and hate his palaces; Therefore I will deliver up the city and all that is in it.”

  4. At Ease in Zion If Christians are at ease today… • It isn’t because there is nothing to do • 1 Corinthians 15:57-58; Ephesians 2:8-10

  5. 1 Corinthians 15:57-58 “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”

  6. Ephesians 2:8-10 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

  7. At Ease in Zion If Christians are at ease today… • It isn’t because there is nothing to do • 1 Cor. 15:57-58; Eph. 2:8-10 • It isn’t because there is an excess of workers • Matt. 9:35-38; Col. 4:10-11; 2 Tim. 4:9-12

  8. Matthew 9:35-38 “Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’”

  9. Colossians 4:10-11 “Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, with Mark the cousin of Barnabas (about whom you received instructions: if he comes to you, welcome him), 11and Jesus who is called Justus. These are my only fellow workers for the kingdom of God who are of the circumcision; they have proved to be a comfort to me.”

  10. 2 Timothy 4:9-12 “Be diligent to come to me quickly; 10for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica--Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia. 11Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry. 12And Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.”

  11. 4:9-12 • It isn’t because there is plenty of time • 2 Cor. 6:1-2; Eph. 5:15-16; James 4:13-17

  12. 2 Corinthians 6:1-2 “We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2For He says: ‘In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.’ Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

  13. Ephesians 5:15-16 “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”

  14. James 4:13-17 “Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit’; 14whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.’ 16But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. 17Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”

  15. Titus 2:11-14 We Must be Diligent in the Lord’s Service… “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.”
