  1. What Are The Merchant Category Code Or MCC Code? The MCC code is a four-digit number assigned by credit card issuers to businesses that fall into specific categories. The code is used to classify businesses according to their primary line of business.

  2. Each merchant category has a corresponding MCC code assigned to it.Some common examples of businesses and their assigned MCC codes include: -Airline - 3000 -Automated Fuel Dispenser - 4323 -Car Rental Agency - 4576 -Gas Station - 5541

  3. The MCC code is used by the credit card issuer to determine the interchange rate that will be charged for processing a transaction. The interchange rate is the fee that a merchant pays to the credit card issuer for each transaction that is processed. The MCC code is one of several factors that are used to determine the interchange rate

  4. The MCC code is also used by some rewards programs to determine which purchases will earn rewards points. For example, a rewards program may offer double points for all purchases made at gas stations. In this case, the gas station would need to have the correct MCC code in order for the purchase to qualify for double points.

  5. If you're not sure which MCC code to use for your business, you can contact your credit card issuer or processor for more information. You can also find a list of MCC codes on the website of the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA)
