    32. 5 Steps to Professional Registration Professional Registration. There are five basic steps to achieve professional registered status Joining as a Member – once you have joined as a member you should complete Form RPD to register that you intend to work towards professional registration. This enables us to record this on our database and ensures that we are able to provide you with the support you need along the way. Education Assessment Professional Development which is assessed within a competence and commitment framework Completion of the M(CEPD) application form. Professional Review The next few slides will go through the process in a little more detail. Professional Registration. (second click link takes you through to some suggested ways to top up (CEng orientated) and mentions alternative routes such as Technical Report Route (TRR). NB – TRR is only available by Committee invitation once individual backgrounds are known) If you feel you do not have the relevant qualifications to pursue professional registration or you do not have a degree in engineering or have a non-UK degree that has not been accredited by the IET or other qualifications, you may need to complete Form IPA for us to undertake an Individual Profile Assessment. Able to create and present appropriate engineering solutions and implementation strategies. Awareness of regulatory, commercial and environmental constraints. Able to review and evaluate solutions to identify future improvements and learning points.

Competences - IEng Competence B Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate and maintain engineering products, processes, systems and services Able to identify a range of possible techniques to undertake a task and are able to analyse the task and take into account external factors in order to select the most appropriate Able to take into account a wide range of factors when planning and implementing solutions Able to review the task when completed and identify learning points.

Applying for Professional Registration Complete the application form M(CEPD) which will include: Educational details Statement of employment history indicating responsibilities Complete Qualifying Report for Professional Development Verified by Sponsor, Proposer and Supporter Copy of your current Development Action Plan Application fee of Ł80 Once you feel that you are able to provide evidence that you have met all the competencies you will need to complete the application form for professional registration – Form M(CEPD). NB Form M(CEPD) is only for applicants form CEng and IEng, EngTech registrants will need to complete Form ET also available on the Forms and Guides page of the website. Professional Review – the interview All candidates required to attend an interview to demonstrate their level of competence Discussion based on information provided on application form M(CEPD) Interviews may take place regionally or in company Once we have received your form and have checked that everything is complete you will be contacted with a date to attend your Professional Review interview. These last approximately 45 minutes and provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate to a panel of 2 senior IET members that you know your stuff. The panel selected will have a similar technical background to your self and the interview will be carried out in a relaxed atmosphere. You will be asked about information you have provided on the Qualifying Report for Professional Registration (QRPD) part of you application form. After the interview, a report form will be completed by the interviewers and sent with your application to the Registration Committee for ratification. The Committee meets every 6 weeks and you will be informed of their decision shortly after.Once we have received your form and have checked that everything is complete you will be contacted with a date to attend your Professional Review interview.
