  2. 1979 – 1980:Establishing Disability Rights • Meeting with other civil rights leaders • Established our office in Washington, DC • Joined the Executive Committee of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights • Produced “No More Stares,” a book about the experience of girls and women with disabilities

  3. 1981 – 1986:Standing Ground • Organized the community and lobbied to defeat the Reagan administration’s attempt to repeal Section 504 • Organized parents of children with disabilities to stop the Administration from weakening the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) • Increased legal efforts at the US Supreme Court

  4. 1987 – 1990:Setting the Agenda • Arline Supreme Court case • Establishing the right for inclusive education • Fair Housing Amendments Act • The Americans with Disabilities Act

  5. 1991 – 1998: Implementation • The DREDF ADA Hotline • National ADA Trainings and the ADA Guide to Implementation • ADA Regulations • Holland v. Sacramento • National Council on Disability research and publications on the enforcement of disability civil rights laws

  6. 1998 – 1999: Challenges • The US Supreme Court, the Sutton Trilogy and the definition of disability

  7. 2000 - 2007: Recommitment • International conference on disability rights • Supreme Court cases continue: • Garrett v. University of Alabama (2001) • Toyota v. Williams (2002) • Tennessee v. Lane (2004) • Reauthorization of IDEA

  8. 2008 - 2014: New Arenas • ADA Amendments Act of 2008 • Access to the Internet and emerging technologies • Access to healthcare & HEALTHCARE STORIES • Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities • Minority students with disabilities and the school-to-prison pipeline
