Age Requirements The swim team is NOT swimming lessons. • Age 8 and Under – must swim one length of pool without holding the rope • Age 9 and Over - must complete 2 lengths of the pool.  Both of these being freestyle, they must be able to float on their back and kick, some knowledge of butterfly or breast stroke is helpful, but not necessary. • Ages 13 and up require 4 lengths of pool on freestyle and 2 lengths of pool on other strokes. • Eligible ages are 5-18 years old as of May 30, 2010.

  3. WHAT IS SWIM TEAM? Swim team is about many things; the core three are: REQUIRED • Practices (min 8 per season),  • Saturday Meet competitions (mandatory, unless you SIGN OUT OF THE GREEN BOOK!!!!)  • HAVING FUN during the summer!

HOW WE COMMUNICATE WITH YOU?#1-YOU have to sign up for Yahoo groups email on our website! • FAMILY FILE FOLDER - Each Swim team family will have a Family File Folder located at the pool.  Your earned ribbons and information will be in your folder.  PLEASE CHECK IT REGULARLY.  • TEAM BULLETIN BOARD - Each week, team bulletin boards, pool records, and individual results will be updated on the team bulletin board located on the inside on the left hand side of the pool house.  This is a good way for you to keep track of how your child is improving.  • E-MAIL - The team schedule, directions to away meets and other info is posted as welL. PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAIL REGULARLY, during the season for additional updates from the team manager, Margie Malaney.

WHAT TO DO AT A MEET? 1.  SIGN IN SWIMMERS AND PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEED TO ARRIVE AT THE POOL AND START SIGNING IN NO LATER THAN 7:45 A.M, THE MEET BEGINS PROMPTLY AT 9:00 A.M. , WARMUPS ARE IN BETWEEN. 2.  CHECK MEET EVENT ENTRIES AFTER SIGNING IN AT THE MEET, EACH SWIMMER MUST CHECK THEIR INDIVIDUAL ENTRIES FOR THE MEET.  THEY ARE USUALLY HUNG ON THE FENCE, WITH A SIGN READING 'MEET EVENT ENTRIES'  WE RECOMMEND BRINGING A SHARPIE AND WRITING THE EVENT NUMBER, HEAT, LANE AND STROKE ON THEIR HAND OR ARM. 3.  CLERK OF COURSE – swimmers line up for their event YOU WILL KNOW THE CLERK OF COURSE BY THE TALL POLE INDICATING THE EVENT NUMBER THAT IS TO BE LINED UP.  KEEP AN EYE FOR WHAT EVENT IS BEING CALLED. PARENTS- CHECK IN WITH YOUR ASSIGNED VOLUNTEER AREA OR THE TEAM MANAGERS SO YOU ARE AWARE OF YOUR DUTIES DURING THE SWIM MEET. See the Team Policies page for more info regarding parent volunteers.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE Evening Practice ONLY while public school in session • June 1 – June 23 (Mon thru Fri) • Same as below with exception of Age 13 and up from 3:00-3:45p.m. Morning and Evening Practice – Day after Public School is out for the Summer • Begins on June 24 or possibly earlier • Tues thru Friday Practices – No Monday practices (Friday is diving only) May 31, June 1 from 6 to 6:30 pm – test children’s swimming ability before time trial TUESDAY-FRIDAY A.M. and TUESDAY-FRIDAY P.M. by age group listed below: 6 & under 9:00-9:45 a.m. and/or 6:30-7:15 p.m.  11 & 12 yrs old 8 :00-9:00 a.m. and/or 8:00-8:45 p.m. 9-10 yrs old 8:00-9:00 a.m. and/or 7:15-8:00 p.m.  13 & up 8:00-9:00 a.m. and/or 8:00-8:45 p.m.

  9. TEAM SWIMSUIT TEAM SUIT IS NOT REQUIRED! However, it is available to purchase at Cy's Swimwear and they will be at the first night’s registration – May 11, 2011  Cy's Swimwear and Tuxedo 719 Frederick Rd Catonsville, MD 21228 410-747-8760

  10. MISC INFO/what else do I need? Parents must • Accompany children age 12 and under during swim meets and practices • NO DROP-OFFS • Adult or designated “sitter” who is at least 16 yrs old. THIS IS A POOL POLICY.   • BRING SUNSCREEN, GOGGLES AND TOWELS.  • SOME KIDS LIKE TO WEAR SWEATSHIRT JACKETS BETWEEN EVENTS IF THE WEATHER IS COOL. • YOU MAY WANT TO BRING A CHAIR. • NO CHILDREN OR ADULTS ARE ALLOWED IN THE BABY POOL OR WADING POOL UNTIL THE MEET IS OVER AND THE LIFEGUARDS ARE ON DUTY.

  11. NEXT STEP Question: I WANT TO JOIN, SO WHAT NOW? Answer: SIGN UP TODAY OR COME TO REGISTRATION ON EITHER MAY 11 OR 12, 2011. Payment due now or at registration. STEPS AT REGISTRATION:  1.  Sign up online! 2.  Verify Volunteer job! 3.  Pay! Cash or check. 4.  Team Swimsuit try on and purchase  (optional).
