  4. Peterson Mission Statement Our mission is to create a supportive and collaborative learning environment that educates and prepares our 21st century learners for an ever-changing world.

  5. NISD Grading Beliefs • Grading and reporting is the system in which we communicate student progress . • The focus always should be on the learning process, the instructional process, and continued student growth. • Grades have some value as a reward, but no value as a punishment. • Grading and reporting should always be done in reference to a learning criteria, never on the curve. • There are 3 general types of learning criteria used in grading and reporting – product, process and progress criteria.   6. Home Access Center • Northwest ISD provides online parent access to student grades and attendance through the eSchool Plus Home Access Center. • From the Home Access Center, you can access student: • assessment information including • grades • progress reports • report cards • test scores • schedule • attendance • class work • Additionally, you can receive email updates and access all of your children’s information with a single logon. • All students and parents will receive a letter in the mail by the second week of school with your user name and password to login to the system and directions for setting up your Home Access Center account.

AS A PARENT OF PETERSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, PLEASE HELP BY… • Making sure your child is rested, on time, and prepared for school each day. • Knowing how your child is doing in school by communicating with teachers by planner, phone, or e-mail. • Monitoring your child’s homework and make sure study time is in a quiet place. • Limiting TV viewing and read together daily with your child. • Being an active participant in your child’s education.

  8. AMP it up! Amplify the learning with Art, Music and PE!

  9. Art Education • We explore visual communication and problem solving with art techniques and materials! • We learn about art history, world cultures, art/math and art/science connections! • We create original artwork that is on display in the hallways when we finish! • We collect most of our artwork in a portfolio to prepare for the Northwest ISD Art Show in the Spring.

  10. The Music Classroom • Students will be given the opportunity to sing and play instruments alone and in a group. • Students will be taught music theory and be able to read and notate music. • Students will be able to create their own compositions and improvise their own melodies. • Students will learn about the history behind music and learn about music from around the world. • Students will be given performance opportunities throughout the school year. • Students HAVE FUN!!

  11. The primary goal for P.E. is the physical and social development for all students. The major content areas this year will include: motor and manipulative skills, rhythms, health and safety, physical fitness and skill development and games related to both individual and team sports.

  12. Safety First, Fashion Second! Wear athletic type shoes to P.E.! Flip –flops, platform shoes, heels, Croc type shoes or slip-on style shoes are not safe for your children during PE and recess time. Help your child learn to tie shoes. It’s safer! Wear shorts underneath dresses and skirts.

  13. Family Communication BEE Binder The BEE Binder has sections for communication between school and home (notes, ride changes, etc.), behavior expectations and behavior logs, and homework. More information will be added as the year progresses. There is also a section for Tuesday News Day. Please sign the behavior log each day a mark is written. The bottom line gets signed each weekend and is due on Monday. School wide information on Tuesday News Day Bi-Monthly Newsletters on Tuesday Report Cards home on Thursdays Mustang News email from Principal Progress reports will go home the Tuesday after the 3rd week of each 6 weeks.

  14. Conferences • We will have at least two parent/teacher conferences this year: one in the fall and one in the spring. • Thursday, October 15th and Tuesday, October 20th we will have late night conferences with parents. • Our fall conferences will be completed by October 20th.

  15. Benefits of Homework • When assigned, will be given the first day of the week and is due each Friday • Read at least 120 minutes each week and at least 4 nights a week. Please sign nightly to monitor your child’s reading. Students need to have a book every day for reading class. • Math-Practice and repetition of what has been taught here at school HW
