A patient monitoris a machine or a device that enables doctors or health care practitioners to monitor the status of the patient’s health. It consists of some buttons and a large console that displays information understandable by doctors. For example, ECG is a machine that electrically detects the activity of the heart. Different types of innovations have been made over the few years in the field of patient monitoring systems. There are portable, wireless and remote monitoring systems available in the market and depending upon the requirement the concerned monitoring system is chosen. In surgical operations, it is crucial to have a patient monitoring system. During operation, a patient shows number of signs of risks that may increase if the patient’s health condition is not properly monitored. In an operation theatre, there are a number of equipment that are being used to monitor patient’s health such as thermometer, pulse oximeter, capnography machine and equipment to measure blood pressure levels. A patient monitoring system is used in various cases such as to measure the level of diabetes.
There are different types of parts associated with a patient monitor machine such as PCB’s, conductors and sensors. To know better, we will distinguish the patient monitoring system into three main parts namely, software, monitoring device and equipment. Monitoring device is nothing but the sensor that is used to capture the information from patient’s body. It consists of PCB’s, connectors and wires that transmits information to the monitoring equipment. The equipment part is the one that processes the data collected by sensors. The equipment stores and processes the data collected by sensors and displays it in the monitor. In some systems, hard drive and a processor is used to store and process the data into computer. In modern systems, software is one of the essential part responsible for analyzing multiple data and giving advanced outputs.
