  1. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS OF A PATIENT MONITOR SYSTEM?

  2. A patient monitor is a device or a system that allows the doctors and healthcare professionals to monitor a patient’s health by keeping a check on the various health parameters. For example, ECG machine is a patient monitoring system that displays the electrical activity of heart. There are numerous applications of a patient monitoring system. Nowadays, variety of patient monitoring systems are available in the market such as wireless monitoring systems, portable monitoring systems and remote or wireless patient monitoring systems. Depending upon the type and application the respective monitoring system is selected. Patient monitoring systems are of critical importance during surgical operations. During the time of operation, surgeon should have access to the different signs of the body so that the surgeon can conduct the surgery process safely. In the operation theatre, one can find different types of sensors and patient monitor systems such as thermometer, pulse oximeter, capnography machine and sphygmomanometer.

  3. Now let us discuss the different components that are usually associated with a patient monitor system. The monitoring device is the mechanical part of the device that is either inserted into the patient or is in direct contact with the patient. The monitoring device consists of a sensor that captures all the important information from the patient’s body. The device also consists of PCB, wires and connectors that take the information from patient’s body so that it can be displayed on the screen monitor. The capital equipment is the hardware part of the patient monitor system that consist of hard drive, memory, processor, connectors, wires and PCBs. The data collected from the patient’s body has to be stored somewhere. Capital equipment stores the data. The software part is the one which processes the data and displays it on the screen in a suitable manner that can be read by the concerned doctor or healthcare professional.
